I can't decide between 2 hotels...could Uber be the answer?

DDH, DD10 and I will be staying in Anaheim for 6 nights in November. We have suites booked at both Park Vue Inn and Homewood Suites, Convention Centre. We've stayed at both before and while Park Vue is perfectly fine, Homewood is newer, with bigger rooms and better food. However, we're torn between which one to stay at. Before we arrive in Disneyland, we'll be in New York and Washington DC for a fortnight so we're going to have done a lot of walking. With all the walking we'll do in Disneyland our legs are not going to want to walk any further than necessary at the end of the day!
The benefit of Park Vue is that it is obviously a lot closer than Homewood Suites so at the end of our park days, we can just cross the road and we're back at the hotel. While Homewood Suites does have the car park next to it with the free Disneyland shuttle bus, it still takes much longer, with more walking to get to and from Disneyland, than if we stayed at Park Vue. I was thinking Uber may be the answer if it can save us the walk and waiting for buses. We don't have Uber where we live so I'm not sure how it works. Would they do such a short trip? Do you have to book in advance and if not, how long do they take to come? How much would it cost to get an Uber from Disneyland to Homewood Suites?

Uber is a great option for staying at a hotel you prefer but don't want to shuttle or walk to.
It's quite common for such short trips so it wouldn't be much at all.

Download the app before you leave , often they will have free rides available too.
You just put in your destination and you choose your ride. UberX is what most people will use or need , UBERXL is for larger parties of 5 or more for example. It usually only takes 5-15 minutes just depending on requests vs drivers available.

I've added a screenshot to give an idea of cost.
This is from the Disneyland hotel but there's a dedicated pickup /dropoff at harbor.

PP gave you great information. You have the choice between the pick up/drop off lot on Harbor and the pick up/drop off area in the DTD parking lot (just past the Lilo lot before you get to the DLH). There is a 15 minute grace period for drivers so they won't have to pay for parking at the DTD lot. We like the DTD drop off because it allows us to use the Starbucks app mobile ordering feature to get breakfast at Starbucks DTD West II (next to the Lego Store). It's nice to be able to go through the DTD bag check, right to Starbucks to pick up breakfast, then eat on our way to the gates.

If I were in your boat, I would probably lean towards PVI. We've gotten to the point where proximity is #1, so will pretty much always choose the closer option for convenience. We like to hop back to the hotel for a midday break/fresh up, so really try to keep it close. Uber's a good option, but for us it would be too much of a hassle to make it worth it (Uber there/back/there/back including a midday break).

I think you would really need to weigh pros/cons and if most convenient is rated higher than other amenities.

To me, the biggest advantage of DLR is reasonably priced accommodation s walking distance from the gates. We chose a not-as-nice hotel a hop, skip and jump from the park gates even though we could have gotten a nicer hotel a little further away for the same price. It was amazing being so close.

Yep, I’d stick with Park Vue, see Hydroguy’s Hotel Rule in the stocky thread of his tips. There’s nothing like deciding the parks are too hot and crowded, and being able to walk back to your hotel in 5 minutes for a break. I would NOT want to mess with Uber or a shuttle multiple times a day. Just my 2 cents’!

We just stayed at Homewood Suites a few weeks ago and the shuttles were no problem. The most we waited was 5 minutes and that was only 1 time.

I personally don’t consider that far at all; we’ve walked further without issues to be at a hotel we liked. But rideshare or taxi would solve problems.

I personally prefer Lyft. They treat drivers better and are easier to recognize from afar. After the tragedy in SC the other day, I want an easily recognizable rideshare vehicle.

I personally would go with Park Vue because it is walkable. We have used timeshare a few times. It is nice to have more space and a kitchen, but nothing beats being across the street. We often stay at the Desert Inn. It isn't because it is so nice, though it is perfectly adequate, it is because we can walk back and forth so easily.

We just got back from Disneyland last Tuesday and I agonized over which hotels to stay at. We had 3 nights at Paradise Pier and I had 3 hotels booked for 2 nights before we got to PP (could not get PP for 5 nights).

Outside the park my 3 hotels were Howard Johnson, Courtyard Marriott and The Grand Legacy a the Park. I ultimately decided that with a 3 year old granddaughter in tow proximity was the priority. The Grand Legacy won out. It was such an easy walk to the parks. It literally took us 7 minutes to walk to the Harbor Blvd bag check. I liked the water feature at the Howard Johnsons but when I actually saw the location of the hotel those extra minutes of walking to it at the end of the day would have kicked our butt. The Grand Legacy used to be the Ramada Inn if I am not mistaken. I liked the Queen Beds, the pool was fine and they gave you a snack bag in the am which contained a bottle of water, apple and granola bar. We easily did 20,000 steps per day so those steps at the end of the day would have been painful!

After the Grand Legacy we switched to Club Level at Paradise Pier. Well, as much as we liked the PP the walk was actually longer as we had to walk to the bag check area by the Disneyland Hotel and then walk all way through Downtown Disney. The only saving grace according to my adult daughter was that we could mobile order for Starbuck on the way LOL. We all commented had much shorter the walk from the Grand Legacy was. It was chilly so we did not even get a chance to use the pool at PP at all (but it looked nice!) We did go up to the pool deck to watch the DL fireworks and they piped in the music. That was fun as we could then go right to our room and put the little one to bed without fighting the crowds leaving the park.

Thank you. This is exactly the information that I was after. :)

Thank you all for your advice and thoughts. I'm leaning more towards PVI now. We're going to have spent the previous fortnight travelling and walking, so saving that extra walk at the end of the day - not to mention during the day when we are likely to go back for a break to our room - is really going to make a difference. :thanks:

Last year at DL, I caved in a few times to my family who just could not walk anymore (even if it was just a short walk to the Hyatt House). So, we ordered an Uber.
