I Can't Believe We Ate the Whole Thing! 15 Nights of DDP with photos...!

I ordered the Chocolate Wave. I was really looking forward to this, especially as I love the idea of white chocolate ice cream:

Notice anything missing? Yup. No ice cream.

All in all, this was a fun and delicious meal. And as you can see in the list of meals I'll review, it was one that got a repeat performance later in the trip.

When did they take away the yummy ice cream! I have been dreaming about this since I had it in December!

I love that you are posting your photos over on the food porn thread too! Double the drool here! :thumbsup2

Did I tell you how much I like your name Appletini? Sounds like Gweneth Paltrow's 2nd daughter's name :rotfl2: .

It's the "all grown up" version of Apple - a little more sophisticated KWIM? :lmao:

I think when I go back to work I'm going to have to have them change my name plate from Jenn to Appletini... That should raise some eyebrows!

And there I was thinking it was Jenn, I'm so sorry ;) :rotfl2: Hi DM :wave2:

Hee!!

I am mearly on pg 1. I have to tell you that I am so envious of your 2 week stay! That is really a dream of mine...

I can see that you did an amazing job capturing the food. I bet it was hard to resist eating long enough to photograph! Hats off to you! I can't wait to read more, as I am planning a fall trip and have not completed my ADR's.

I'll be back!:)

great report - love the photos. we were there the same time and ate at some of the same places! loved le cellier and mmmm those tacos really hit the spot! I always want to try Spoodles but it never seems to make the list.

thanks for sharing

Our cakes come from Mike's Pastry in the North End of Boston. That place is famous for their pastry. The cannoli are the best. The cakes aren't bad, but I don't love regular frosting. Someone did order a cake from them a couple weeks ago for a baby shower and it has the whipped cream frosting. It was the best frosting I've ever had.

"It's a Small World......." I was at Mike's Pastry on Sat. night. Goodness gracious, the lines are crazy. I commented at the time that they should hire Disney to create their queue for them. Have to say though, if anyone is ever in the area, best cake ever is from the Konditor Meister in Braintree, MA. OH YES. Sorry to be OT.

Really awesome food report. My DS9 got a real kick out of your son discovering the sour candy. I have to stop reading this thread when I am hungry though.

slk, you've been a busy little bee! These are some great reviews! I am glad to see I'm not the only one who enjoys a strawberry swirl (and a citrus swirl, and a dole whip, and....;) ).

Thanks Princessjv! Two weeks is absolutely wonderful!! You can really relax and enjoy everything without that sad "We're leaving soon" feeling.

I am also reading your TR and DR and thoroughly enjoying them!!!

Althought Flame Tree BBQ is the family tradition Must Do, we also really like Tusker House. I know they've declared it will be a buffet soon and I'll miss it.

DS had declared he wasn't hungry, having eaten his weight in cereal and apples in the room so he opted to share with us.

DH ordered the Rotisserie chicken with garlic mashed potatoes and green beans, Medium sprite (DAK CS didn't go for the large sodas on the DDP) and for dessert the Carrot cake.

I ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich and steak fries, a bottle of Apple juice and Chocolate cake for dessert.

I had filled my water bottle before we came in and added Crystal Light for my drink. DH split off the leg of chicken for DS, we gave him some of the green beans and fries, all the apple juice, and told him the carrot cake was a pumpkin bar (he loves pumpkin bars). He enjoyed his lunch very much.

The chicken was drier than last time we had it - not quite as good. The potatoes and green beans still tasted fresh and very good. I had about half my sandwich - which was really good, but I have a weakness for fried chicken type sandwiches - and DH had the other half and declared it good. The steak fries are always a great change from the skinny basic fries served at most counter service.

I was disappointed again that the cakes were in the little cups instead of being slices of fresh cake like the year before. The chocolate cake still tasted very good, but the carrot cake ws uber sweet. Gick.

Overall, a very filling lunch and a nice afternoon break.

That night we had dinner reservations at 'Ohana. I wasn't sure about this. We'd been there a few times before, both with the old menu and the new. We liked it. But on our last trip we had cancelled the reservation and gone to Spoodles again instead. I don't like all the interruptions in the meal (coconut races, limbo, etc) because DS gets distracted and has to participate in everything. I know that sounds scroogy, and if it was a nice normal meal, no problem. But since the food comes at you like a machine gun - well - it's a rushed, distracting kind of meal.

But DH and DS wanted to go, so I decided I would force it to be calm and well paced.

We waited in the Tambu Lounge for about 3 minutes where I was debating treating myself to a mojito, and then we were seated. We had an outstanding table with a great view of the castle:

Our server was nice and we ordered our drinks - coke, diet coke and Kitty cocktail. She brought our drinks and another server came out with the salad, wontons and dips, and chicken wings:

Even though we didn't ask, she offered a childs meal for DS. He was happy with the regular menu, but once she said, "he can still eat everything here, but would he like chicken nuggets or a peanut butter and jelly sandwich too?" he was hooked. DS loves PB&J's

<<<warning Joh - I'm about to post two photos of the infamous PB&J!:rotfl: >>>

You can see in the back of the first PB&J photo that he did indeed have some steak too.

Here is a shot of the delicious Maui potatoes:

And I have no real photos of just the meat - we tried the sausage (ehh...so so), the turkey (good with peanut sauce) and steak (YUM!!!). We didn't have any trouble with refills of soda or meat and we slowed down our own pace of eating even though the food came out constantly and quickly.

Soon it was dessert time. I was going to ask if she could bring some vanilla ice cream on the side along with the Bananas Foster Bread Pudding. DS doesn't care for things mucking up his vanilla, unless he puts them there. Seriously. I have taken the child to Coldstone and he's ordered plain Vanilla. AT COLDSTONE!! But I digress...

Before I could ask, she offered to bring him a sundae. He was thrilled and asked (shocker) if it could just be vanilla plain. She assured him that was no problem, but would he mind some Mickey sprinkles too.

Would he??

BCV5-7-07ohanaV.jpg

He was delighted!!

And along with this fabulous dessert came ours:

If love were in a bottle and you could drink it, it would taste like this caramelly buttery rummish sauce...  Especially when mixed with melted vanilla ice cream.

Overall? A very good dining experience. And DS did get to do the coconut races, limbo, hula hoops, parade, and even dragged me up for hula lessons.

We ended the night with a snack of Stitch's astronaut freeze dried ice cream purchased in the shops at the Poly. Truly a most unusual item: tastes exactly like neopolitan ice cream, but dry and not cold.

Bizarre.

DH and DS? Loved it. :confused3

So glad you had a good meal at Ohana. We loved it last trip and are looking so forward to going back!
We had the same thing with the ice-cream. We wanted it plain but came out with the sprinkles. Your ds was much better then my 4yr old dd. She was not happy! This time I will say nothing on it at all please!

Thanks again for your great detailed reiviews!

I have been checking into this thread several times a day and I have to say I LOVE LOVE LOVE it.

Thank you both! I am having so much fun with this! My absolute favorite meal of the trip is up very soon - Yachtsman!

I will be going to O'hanna for the first time on my upcoming trip. The potatoes and the bread pudding look really good! What a pretty view!
