I cant believe this... Poly refurbishment

I don't go on vacation to cook.
Sure, but you said there were no food options. Using your kitchen or kitchenette is a food option. Plus the store at Kidani Village usually has an assortment of food to prepare in the villa, either in the microwave or the oven/stove.

I know. Are you familiar with the Villas? Ive never been there. Would you want to stay at the Villas with no monorail or Grand Ceremonial House? Is that where you check in for the resort and the villas? Or do Villas have their own check-in? Im concerned if they close more dining options as well. This is not an inexpensive trip for our family. We are splurging and thats not a common thing for us.
Guests are being encouraged to check in online right now. They're offering direct to room for everyone.

If you want to check-in in person, everyone still can do so at the Great Ceremonial House. We stayed at the villas in July & did that. The shops in the GCH are open.

The resort monorail & the TTC to MK monorail are both already running and have been since July. The only monorail not currently running is the one to Epcot.

Captain Cook's & Kona Cafe are open & should stay that way, so I don't see why you're worried that more restaurants would close. Ohana is closed & there is no room service, but that's been the status quo since reopening.

The feature pool and quiet pool both are and have been open since July, and that is unlikely to change, either. They're less crowded than usual due to no resort guests.

They've also been holding Movies Under the Stars since July.

I subscribe to some Disney blogs and am always getting emailed random articles & updates. The idea of the dining options being affected came from a few of those. I also read one article that said something about the main pool being refurbished but haven't seen that anywhere else.

Main pool was in tip-top shape & fully operational when we were there in July. So was the quiet pool.

Other parts being refurbished or not, they're unlikely to open more features due to the small # of people in the DVC area compared to other resorts being open. With most DVC members going to TTC for a monorail, there is no reason to run the monorail before the main resort opens. It wouldn't be worth the cost to run it. Cost v usage is going to be a big consideration to their decision to open as parts get completed.

Yes there is a very clear indication that the Resort Monorails will no longer stop at the Poly GCH starting in "Early" October as renovations / construction begins on the new Moana theme for the resort and the GCH.

OP was referring to an earlier post that a phone CM was telling someone the only monorail operating at TTC was the Epcot line, which is the opposite of the truth.

First thing, I think we don't know much about the impacts on the Great Ceremonial House. It may be focused on the monorail area, or some minor work on the inside rather than some grand scale closure.

The monorail closure is probably the bigger deal, especially if you are going to the parks. We were there last month not going to parks and only rode the monorail once. You can also walk over to the TTC and get the monorail from there, and it's the DVC buildings at the Poly that are closer toward the TTC.

We are going back next month, and, frankly, I'm happy that the resort portion isn't reopening. It means the pools will be less crowded, Captain Cooks will be less crowded, etc. The lack of people last month was at times a little eerie (the GCH was so quiet), but mostly it was great. Kona Cafe booked up immediately for our time there, so it will probably stay open unless it is being worked on in some way. Captain Cooks will definitely stay open as long as there are some guests.

I do think you have a tough decision to make, and it may be best for your family to change resorts. But I wouldn't write it off entirely just yet.
I agree with this. We’ve stayed at the poly many times and the fact that the rest of the resort is closed would be a GOOD thing. It’s so hard to find chairs at the pool usually. With social distancing it would be impossible. The monorail is not a selling feature to me anymore- we’ve seen it down way too many times to rely on it. I love the boat. The villas are also very close to the TTC to get the ferry or monorail. The poly is out favorite resort and there’s nothing that could make me stay away though :rotfl:

I know you are disappointed but remember...it's only a very short walk to the T & T from there. You can then get the monorail to Magic or one of the other resorts for dining, or the paddleboat to magic. They will also have the buses running.

The Disney disappointment train keeps rolling on through when it comes to our first family Disney trip with our little boy. I need encouragement & advice! I had Wilderness Lodge booked, i was very excited about the choice, I booked it for September of this year, back in January b4 Covid was a thing. Come to find out, hey Wilderness is one of the resorts NOT reopening! I cancelled our trip for September bc of all the Covid Crazy, and moved it to April 2021. I took a shot, and asked for a price protected move to Poly bc it was the one resort I really wanted to stay at but felt I couldnt afford. Was so HAPPY & EXCITED that they gave me what I felt was an upgrade. A deluxe studio at the Poly Villas!! I had a standard room at WL. Thrilled and SET. NOW I AM READING POLY RESORT is closed til next summer!!!??? What???!!! 😭😭😭 Now Disney website updated that Ceremonial house is being refurbished and NO monorail?? What do you guys think?? What do I do?? What would you do?? Will there be no restaurants either? Bad enough no Ohana! What Deluxe resorts do you guys feel are pretty much up & running with the most amenities? I wanted the monorail & ferry & water views!!
Wilderness Lodge is open now. My niece just checked in today. She said it has just been refurbished.

?? Are you talking about Boulder Ridge Villas and Copper Creek Villas? I feel like if Wilderness Lodge were reopened there would have been an announcement I would have seen? The DVC options are open, not the main Lodge.

Yea no but an easy thing to get confused by reports from the world.

Only the DVC portions (BRV, CCV, Cascade Cabins) at the WL are open and have been since June. And to add even more confusion CCV is 1/2 of the main lodge building and the south wing.

Hi I read last week that Polynesian is closed until 2021. We are supposed to be staying at Shades of Green in December and we were going to use the monorail at Poly. (we were also going to do the Aloha Dinner Show and Ohana, but guess that's out too) Since the monorail stop at Polynesian is closed what are other ways to get to MK from SOG? I assume, but not sure if there isn’t a ferry still at Polynesian? Would it be possible to walk from SOG to transportation and ticket center? If so how long of a walk do u think that is? We'd rather not take the bus since we'll have 2 strollers. Thanks for your help.

Yes it is about 9 ths of a mile or 15-20 minute walk from SOG lobby to the TTC via the pathway through the Polynesian grounds.

If you're used to the regular units at Wilderness Lodge, it would be easy to confuse CCV with "refurbishment."

But WL is not open, and BRV is not yet refurbished.

Meh, you'll live. It was an unexpected upgrade to begin with. GCH will still be somewhat open and im sure bustling. Then you have the pool which just cant be beat. Make the best of it !
