I can't believe it! She's talking!!!!

Matt and I were shocked last night - we were sitting in bed eating dinner (hey, it was a longggg day yesterday with the yard sale - getting up at 4:30 - no lunch) and all of a sudden we started hearing...

We looked at each other and said "did you hear that?"

One of our cockatiels was talking! Of course we thought it was Tweezer, our male. Everyone knows it's very rare for females to talk....

But it turns out it was Piper talking!

Our female cockatiel, less than a year old, only had her for a month - was talking. And get this.. we haven't been training either of them to talk yet! She just got it from us calling her a pretty bird!

We have a birdy genius on our hands

Neat! I have my cockatiel out with me right now. I thought she was a male when I got her but after months of her being silent and only making happy chirps, I realized she was a female.

If you get a lot of birds around your house, and leave the windows open, your birds might start to imitate their chirps and songs! My boyfriends albino cockatiel would mimick the outside birds, and the telephone ringer!

Yes, be careful what you say. My aunt has a bird that says "you stinking wh**e" when it gets mad! They got it from someone else, so they are not sure where it picked that up!

I remember years ago, a pet shop near us had a huge parrot that was kind of the store pet. They had placed him on a stand near the kittens and as a result, he meowed continuously. It was one of the funniest things I'd ever heard.

How great to hear she's talking. My Parrotlet is 16 months and won't talk. I would love to hear her talk as I I understand they talk in a little voice.
