I Can See Epcot From Here! ~ A November Trip and Dining Report ~

My DS missed the pokeman craze too but we went through He-Man and Baseball cards.

I bought a carriage to do the pick a pearl after reading about them on here, I always stoppe and watched people doing it but never did it myself, I guess I will do it next trip. You got a good size pearl, I have read pick out the ugliest hairiest oyster you see to get a good pearl. How nice you did not have to wait long.

I'M Here Shelly! I have been keeping up with your updates and enjoying every one! Super busy at the moment and don't always have time to comment! Your trip looks so nice and relaxing, as always!!! You have inspired me to plan some time at AKL on our trip in August! :) Can't wait to see and hear all about your experience at MVMCP!! :thumbsup2

Great update! We love Pick-a-Pearl...we pick pearls on every trip! It's a tradition for us. Can't wait to hear about MVMCP!:cool1:

I really enjoyed pick a pearl! :goodvibes I don't get to do too many girly things around here! :upsidedow
I stopped to take a break in between cleaning bathrooms and cleaning my LR/DR/Kitchen, and you've done a Saturday update! :woohoo: Cleaning can wait!

That's so fun that you went to Epcot for just one reason that day. So many times we kind of just wander in and out of the different countries and stores, but it's good when there is something special to see and do. My DS missed the Pokemon craze when it first started - that was several years ago, so I guess it wasn't a flash in the pan fad like Beanie Babies. I won't even tell you how many Beanie Babies we had (and still have). ;) So what purchases did the boys make?

Pick-a-Pearl looks like so much fun! Do you just point to the one you want to open, and do they all have pearls inside? OK, one more question. :guilty: Are there a lot of variations in what you can get? Sorry for the inquisition - I'm just so interested! I love the carriage necklace - it's perfect!

It sure is convenient to just walk over to Epcot for a little while and then walk back. That gives the Epcot resorts a definite plus!

I may have missed it, but did you ever say how your DH likes your shorter hair? Seeing your pics in this update made me think of that. :scratchin

Yes, Disney is way more important than cleaning!!

It was really convenient to just be able walk over to Epcot for that. We would have never taken a bus to Epcot for that short of a trip. So the Epcot resorts are very appealing for that reason! ::yes::

Yep, you just point to the oyster you want and they pick it out and open it up. I think most of them have pearls. :confused3 I guess I don't really know. I never really paid too much attention to it before. I think mine was a pretty decent sized one.

I'll have to see if I can find any pics of what the kids bought that day. And of course we had to go back in there later in the week too!

Well, DH hardly noticed my haircut. :headache: Granted, it does look pretty much the same from the front, but there is about 8 inches missing off the back. It took him 2 days to notice. :upsidedow

What a beautiful pearl! I bought the same carriage necklace before my trip, but I haven't even worn it yet. Pearl is my birthstone, so I couldn't wait to pick my own.

Welcome Meghan! :)

Thanks! I have only worn my necklace once since we've been back. It may be more of a 'wear only at Disney' thing. I do get it out and look at it often and think of that fun day! :goodvibes

The Pokemon craze has been going on for a couple of years here and it is getting worse instead of fading away!

I hope you get a great big beautiful pearl on your trip!! :goodvibes

Hey Kim! I wondered where you had run off to!! I know everyone is super busy this time of year. We still have 3 school days to go. :upsidedow

So what are your August dates? I think I might have already asked you once on the Snowbird thread, but I've forgotten. . . Late August is one of the times we are considering, since we don't start school until September. But I'm afraid I'll melt in August in Florida!! :faint:

We are still "unbooked" as it happens! Waiting for a good deal or at least a good PIN!!! :) Our tentative dates are the 23rd/24th-Sept 1 - the girls always start school right after Labour Day! I have been told to avoid LAbour Day weekend as it can get fairly crowded!

I too am a little nervous about the heat but our plan is to hit the am emh parks for a few hours in the morning and then spend the rest of the afternoon by the pool and or in a hammock and or in air conditioning!!! We really plan to enjoy the Poly!!! Maybe hit another park in the evening for a few hours. We will definitely be taking things at a slower pace!! My park commando days are numbered on this trip! :lmao:

Shelly - i Love love love the pick a pearl thing. something for me to do on my next trip. so you found the carriage on ebay... hmm something to ponder..... great pics

Shelly and anyone who might be interested-

I came across a great site for checking on past years(2008-2010) weather conditions, after checking on my new dates I now have a pretty good idea of the best and worse case senarios will be for my week and thought someone else here might find the site useful too as it seems a few are still up in the air as to when to go next year. enjoy :)

We decided to take a short trip over to Epcot before getting ready for MVMCP. We didn't plan to ride anything. We were just headed to Japan! Why Japan? Well, the kids are very obsessed with Pokemon right now! All the kids around here are. The video games and toys and everything!! And since it is all based in Japan they had high hopes that they would have some good stuff there. And I wanted to do Pick A Pearl! This is something that I never really paid too much attention to in the past, it just seemed like something that mothers and daughters do together. But then I saw it in a couple of TR's on the DIS and read about the Ebay seller who sells the pearl carriages and it just looked really neat. I had told the boys about it and they said they would like to help me pick out an oyster! So I purchased the carriage necklace for $5.50 on Ebay before we left and was all set.

We got to the Mitsubishi Store in Japan and walked in and the kids were in their glory, Pokemon stuff everywhere!!! :yay: All right there beside Pick A Pearl!

This CM was very friendly and helpful and knew all the Pokemon names and everything. I think the boy were in love! :lovestruc

After they looked at that stuff for quite some time they made their purchases and I bought a ticket for Pick A Pearl and went over and got my number and waited. There was only one person in front of me. Pretty soon it was my turn!

The boys picked a winner!!

Up Next: MVMCP!

I absolutely love this TR!

Love the pick a pearl! The boys were looking at your pics and Drew said he wants us to do it "If we ever get to go back," :rolleyes1 and he'll use his money to pay for my pearl! He's too sweet. Little does he know we'll be at Epcot in 36 days! :rotfl: Better save those pennies little man!! :lmao:

Awe that is so sweet and what a nice surprise you have in store for him :goodvibes

Your pearl is awesome! nice and big!! I love the pictures you got there too. Ours don't look as good.

I've worn my necklace a few times to work and every time someone asks me if it's Cinderella's carraige! And not just the people who know I am a Disney nut!

Love the pictures at Epcot - the photopass is great!

We are looking at roughly the same time. We start school after Labor Day too. It would sure be a different trip, we would have to plan on not getting much done. But who knows, it could end up to be very pleasant. You never know! :goodvibes

I'd like to stay at the Poly too, but all that is out is Free Dining and I'm not paying rack rate at the Poly to get Free Dining, that I don't even want. :upsidedow So it may be FD at CBR or waiting out a room discount for the Poly. . . If we even decide on going then!!

Shelly - i Love love love the pick a pearl thing. something for me to do on my next trip. so you found the carriage on ebay... hmm something to ponder..... great pics

Thanks Mari! :) You and your DD should defintitely do it! Yep, I got the carriage necklace on Ebay for $5.50!

Thanks! Yes, our CM was very much into her job and posing for pics and everything!

I should wear my necklace to school, I bet the kids would notice it! :goodvibes

I love this picture! So cute!

About your plans for next year.......read above that you wanted Poly, but not at rack rate. I wondered if you were considering Swan/Dolphin, for the teachers' discount? I know you had mentioned that before.

I know, that picture is cute! :santa: DS11 emailed it to his friends (who are also obsessed with Pokemon) and put Merry Christmas on the top and sent it like a Christmas e-card! It was cute!

I was considering the Swan/Dolphin because I can get a really good rate there , but I think staying right there would be very much like staying at the BW, and I'm not much for staying in the same place 2 times in a row! I like to change things up! We will definitely consider the Swan/Dolphin for a future trip though! :goodvibes

Makes sense......maybe an awesome deal will come out and you can stay at the Poly! We have gone 2 times in late May/early June. It was really hot, but we are used to hot and humid. But given the choice of hot or cold, I would rather be hot in Disney! There are things you can do to beat the heat, or at least work with it! I think late August would be a good time. It would probably be a little less crowded than June and July. And you wouldn't be having to take the boys out of school and do all the make-up work or bring school along on the trip. ;)

Thanks for the great report, we will be staying at BWI on our upcoming trip this spring.

This will be our 1st trip at this resort and I've always loved the boardwalk and am looking forward to our stay here.

You DS got some great pics of their favorite Pokemen it looks like and how cute about the Pokeman Christmas Greeting :)

Do they still have so much Hello Kitty merchandize, funny I do not recall the pokeman but do remember seeing lots and lots of Hello Kitty when I was there in 2009.
