That's pretty much how I feel (except for the niece/pets part.)Austrailia will be my retirement present to myself, when I can add pre and post days and spend 3 weeks there (not spending 27 hours on a plane for 12 days) and my niece will be old enough to stay at my house to take care of my pets and I can buy business class airfare (27 hours = business or first class)
Yeah!!

Hope you have a great time!!!

I also want to go to New Zealand while I'm down there.
Sayhello
My dream is the Quantas flight from Dallas to Sydney on the A380. I have this weird fascination with that plane and since no US carrier is going to buy one I need fly on one when I get the chance.
That's the flight I'm booked on going out. It's the longest commercial flight right now at 16h 50m.
I agree....spending that much time on a plane definitely warrants a longer stay. I'm very lucky since I get 36 days of PTO a year. My husband doesn't get as much PTO as I do, but he never takes off and can roll over PTO so I'm definitely going to use that in our advantage. We will definitely add some pre and post days. Post days in Melbourne since we have friends that live there and if we're ending in Tasmania saving Melbourne for the end just makes sense. We will see how it all works out, but this is one of the two vacations I have to take (the other being Italy) and I figure life is too short so I'm just going to do it.
We're definitely flying business or first. That is way too long in a plane to be uncomfortable. My dream is the Quantas flight from Dallas to Sydney on the A380. I have this weird fascination with that plane and since no US carrier is going to buy one I need fly on one when I get the chance.

We did 12 hours from Chicago to Maui direct, it's long and boring but at least you know when you get off the plane, you're there. As long as you move around and stretch, and bring plenty to entertain you (and snacks), it won't be as bad as it sounds!
I am SO jealous of this trip, I can't wait to hear all about it. My husband and I are dreaming of the day our kids are old enough to take to Australia - before kids we had to choose between Australia and Hawaii, and went with Hawaii. Now that Aulani is here, I wish we had done it the other way, we could do Hawaii with kids!
