I Called the Groomer. She Admits it!!

DH & I have an acquaitance who si a gromer. When we first got Ted, he was having some "issues" on his belly with a rash, so the vet suggested getting him shaved there and groomed, to see if having a little less fur might make a difference...the thought being that the fur wasn't allowing the skin to "bret=ahte" and holding in omoisture...you get the idea...

Anyhow, she came to our house and groomed him, and DH & I were there, telling him what a good boy he was etc. When she got the electric clippers and went to do the part around his ears, he snapped at her. I htink the noise scared him, he was young. He didn't bite, he just snapped. She jumped back, and decided to finish his ears using scissors, which was fine. But a comment she made stayed with me forever after that...she said "if he had been at a groomers and done that, they'd have knocked him off the table and hung him by the lead for a minute to teach him a lesson".

Right there, I decided Ted would never go to a groomer. We bought an electric shaver to care for his belly area, I trim him in other areas when necessary (ears, paws etc) when necessary with DH holding him and telling him how good he is. We brush him often. He is a Springer Spaniel, but not a show dog so he doesn't need the fancy Springer cut....we just keep him clean, neat, keep on top of mats.

OMG!!!

I hope she uses this as a learning experience!

You handled it very well!! I don't know that I could have been so calm and understanding! I think I would have freaked on the woman!!!

DITTO! Wowwwy! Many hugs to you!

Disney Doll, how scary and I'm glad that he snapped at home rather than at a groomer.

Have we scared Dawn away? I thought that we all made some very good points!

Dawn, I know that you have a hard time with this...but please report this lady. Please put aside your concern for her "paying her bills" etc, for the other pets that she grooms.

She could do this to other dogs on a regular basis...please please...stop her from doing to others as she has done to you.

I just shudder at the thougth of groomers letting the dogs hang from the leash, it makes me want to throw up.
:guilty: :dog:

I am speechless. This woman should NOT be grooming dogs. Does she have a boss?

I think she's self-employed.

All these stories make me really happy that I groom my own dogs. It seems like it was well worth the $200.00 investment on a good set of clippers.

are you going to report her? I sure would to make sure she didn't do this to other animals.

I am back, I had to get some baby food, which she doesn't like. And afterward I was so exhausted, that I rented a movie and fell asleep. She likes scrambled egg. She ate two. I wish I knew what her caloric requirement was so I could try to exceed it. She walked ten feet today, by herself. I was astounded. The vet knows what happened to Chelsea. I think "word of mouth" is the best that I can do right now with regard to this groomer. I am so conflicted about ruining her livelihood and I know you guys are right. I am counting on her having learned her lesson and not repeating this tragedy. I tend to be optimistic, maybe I am being too optimistic.

I wouldn't have a problem clipping but I don't know how to do the face, which is the major area with poodles.

She is, and I would guess she slides under the IRS. Just a guess. I don't know that.

OMG ... I hope your poor doggie gets well... :dog: I wouldn't of stopped with a phone call.. I'd be calling newspapers, better business burea, and the aspca oh and I would also make them pay the vet bills..

:wizard: P& PD for a full and healthy recovery

Dawn...I also wanted to mention that we used the vitamin stuff in a tube that another poster talked about for our malti-poo when he was a baby. very high in nutrients and calories. He would like it off our finger or we would squirt it in his mouth and gently hold his mouth closed until he swallowed. It was good for him.
Maybe it will help Chelsea. :grouphug:

I must have missed this whole thing. First, I'm so sorry to hear that something awful happened to your dog at the groomer's (anyone have a link to the original story?). I tend to agree with others who suggest you'd be doing other animals (and their people) a favor by reporting this woman, especially after reading Disney Doll's story. How awful to think this goes on. I hope your elderly dog recovers, poor baby. I don't think I could have been as nice to her as you've been - not if she made my dog turn blue on purpose (if I understand it correctly). I don't understand what could make a person who at some point must have loved animals, turn so cold hearted and evil? :confused3

I don't think I can bare to read the original story. This is just horrid. I can't even imagine. I am sorry for your dog, I hope he gets better but I also think you need to do something to report this woman. I don't think I will ever take my dog to a groomer after reading this thread.

With a little practice, I'm sure you'd be great. Dogs don't know that you've done a bad job!!!

she's probably wicked freaked right now, wondering what you're going to do. I'd ask her to pay the medical bills for poor Chelsea...it's her fault what happened to Chelsea!!! And yes, word of mouth will help... if you can find out who else uses her.....I hope she doesn't do this to any other animal ever again!!! :dog:

I honestly do not think that she would have the money to pay for the vet bills. It will be a financial hit as it is for her to return the $50. for Annie. She is a jerk, a complete idiot but I know her ex doesn't pay child support, the house she is living in is in disrepair, and I have a real problem hurting her as much as she has hurt us. I know that sounds cowardly but I am praying that she has learned an important lesson.

OMG, I am so sorry for you and your precious doggie. I am amazed that you handled it so rationally. Like some other posters, I am really level, but when it concerns my child, family, that's different. DH calls it the "mother hen" reaction.
I can't believe the gall of that groomer. If she doesn't like the job, she should find another one, not take her hurry out on the animals. Makes me wonder how many other dogs she has already hurt.

I'm so sorry this happened to your poor dog. This is not the first time I've heard of these types of injuries while grooming.

We have a "fancy smacy" pet place near us. People pay like an extra $10 per day to have 15 min "play time" with their dog. (Doggy day care.) They "place" takes the money, but many times just check off on the sheet that they were "played" with. I know, cause my friends dd worked there.

A real shame......
