I agree with Anne, she should not be in business. If a dog is stressed by grooming, then the dog does need light sedation. You were most definitely nicer to her then I would have been in your situation.

Shouldn't she be reported? If she has admitted to doing this to one dog, I would imagine that this is going on with other dogs. She is abusive and should not be allowed to groom dogs.

First off, she shouldn't be in business. I would file a complaint with the BBB/CoC/licensing bureau.

Next, find out of her "business" has a libaility insurance policy. C\File a claim with them at least for your medical bills.

Believe me Anne, I would love to grab her by the scruff and squeeze but I know that I have the ability, based on her actions, to make her life very difficult. I just don't think that behaving that way will serve me well or make me a better person in the end. When I tell you that it was a major struggle for me to "stifle myself", believe me. It was. I don't think it was "deliberate" in the sense that she said, "I am going to wring this dog's neck", I think it was a matter of not giving a damn. It really infuriates me and I have shed more tears over this than I would have imagined. I just want Chelsea to recover some mobility and be happy.

I still say Bravo to you Dawn for your handling of this matter.

If you let the vet know and others who might have their dogs groomed there what happened to Chelsea, it will serve you better than if you get into it with her.. She obviously has no remorse and should not be working with animals.

The dog was defenseless and that is the part that makes me crazy....how much does Chelsea weigh compared to her... Shame on her.

My concern is taht if she's done this to your dog, how many others will it happen to? You might be saving many other dogs lives by reporting it. Just because it wasn't deliberate doesnt' mean anything. She obviously is nto properly trained or able to handle some dogs, and bottom line, shouldn't be doing so.

it's not just about your dog--she must have others...you need to stop her before it happens again, and again, and again.

Thank you. Isn't it AWFUL that the nicest thing that can be said about her is, "at least she didn't lie to me".? If Chelsea weighs 5 pounds now, I would be amazed!

What Ann and I said definitely concerns me here and I agree with Ann if she did it to yours, she will do it to others. How do you handle that and where do you report it? I do not know the right answer here, like I said I could not be as gracious, and probably would have called the BBB and whoever else I thought could help with this. I know it was not malicious, but it happened because the dog did not want to be groomed so you grab the neck and make the dog turn blue?? I do not want to fire you up because I do think that you are doing what is right for you and your family...I just worry about the next dog...will he/she be as lucky as Chelsea to survive it.

I'm so sorry. I was talking about this with a friend of mine who is a groomer and we thought maybe that Chelsea accidently slipped off the table with the leash still on, while the groomer had her back turned. To find out this was intentional is just sickening.

I would report this to the BBB and whatever other agencies you could report it to. She may not have much $ and you feel bad for her, but what she did was evil and she needs to figure out another line of work to go into. She's going to end up killing the next dog and you'll feel even worse than you do now.

I am not a "sue happy" person by any means, but I would consider suing in this case. Maybe you won't get $ from her if she has none to take, but you will make it so she possibly will not do this to another dog.

One other thing--I applaud you for not totally losing control and pummeling that lady like you probably felt like doing, but I do not think that walking away from this lady and not pursuing it is the right thing to do. I think that you have an obligation to make sure this does not happen to another dog. It's not enough to tell people that you know so they won't use her. What about the people you don't know who use her or might use her in the future? How would you feel if you found out that this has already happened to other dogs and their owners didn't pursue it?

I really agree with this. Believe me, I would flip out if I found out that my pet had been abused by a groomer, nevermind a groomer with a history of doing so to other animals. You don't even know if this "groomer" is licensed to do business as a dog groomer. If I were you, I'd find out what the laws in my state are regarding this, and I'd drop a dime if I found out that she was unlicensed. I would assume that licensed=trained and monitored. Unlicensed apparenty=abusing your elderly dog to the point where she turned blue. That's really sick. I don't care if this person is a single mom with a son to support. That doesn't give her license to abuse someone's pet.

I really don't think expecting her to pay the vet bills is being vindictive. SHE injured your dog to the point of possible death. That is totally unacceptable whether she is a single mom or rolling in riches-it doesn't matter. Chelsea suffered needlessly and this so-called groomer should be held accountable.

This really should be reported to the local animal control/humane societies... especially if you have the backup info from your vet about the injuries. If she's done this to your poor dog "to get the job done" how many others have been hurt???? Any groomer worth their salt knows that dogs have their limits and if they need to stop halfway through a wash or haircut then so be it. It's not worth the risk of being bitten by an angry dog, nevermind the groomer being the one to injure.

I would not be letting this one go at all. No animal deserves that kind of treatment.

I'm just so sad for you and your little Chelsea. :-(
