I'm so excited! I just got home from Michaels. I used the 40% off coupon from the paper (am I the only one who is nervous every time that that coupon won't work?) Anyway, I bought the machine and just one die to start. A very simple frame (38-0163). I figured that would be the most useful. Took me four tries to figure out the right amount of pressure to get it to cut but now I seem to have it.

What dies do you recommend as particularly useful for a newbie to purchase?

Congrats!! I buy things I know I will use the most. I have 6 sizzlit fonts and some regular dies. Personally I now only buy the green and yellow dies, as the red ones are to big for my taste. I have a couple but I don't buy them anymore.

Just buy things you find you will use the most.

Darn I was in a Micheals today too and didn't even think about getting one and about a coupon. My DD13 loves those and has wanted one. What price did you get it for?

I recommend anything that you are interested in. I have lots of general ones, then beach ones, cause I use them alot. My DS just used my Shadow Box font for his Science Fair. It really looked so nice and professional. It was nice to not have the paper from the printer around all the letters like most of the boards had.

I have to move the red dies 3 times to get good cuts...1 end, then the middle, then the other end. I also have to press 2x to get a good cut. So I press, let up then do a press again.

Congrats on getting yours. I have so much fun with mine!!

I have two sizzlet fonts and use them all the time, more than I would one particular die cut shape.

They're pricey though. I used a rare 50% off coupon for them.

Enjoy.

I got it for $47. Not cheap but it moved from out of my price range into my price range.

Congrats! I only have the sidekick and one sizzlet font. I really want to get the XPCS. I am going to save, save, save! :thumbsup2

I got the sidekick yesterday. 40% off at AC Moore for $28 something! And I found a great deal on a fruit smoothie alphabet at Michael's. It was 50% off and they took the coupon off as well so I got is for $48! I am so excited! I was wondering how often do you have replace the cutting pad?

I am also a newbie with Sizzix. I've found some great bargains on dies at Creativexpress.com. I also bought a couple used ones from another scrapbook board. I have stars, swirls, scroll, blazing sun, and a couple sizzlit sets--camping and race cars which I will use a lot because my boys are in scouts. I also have a sizzlit font--Boxed Brush. If you buy any of the sizzlits you will need to get a converter too. I can't wait to try mine out--maybe next weekend as today there was too much going on. Have fun!

I have two fonts and fruit smoothie is my favorite. The letters are fat enough to work with and put adhesive on easily. Besides - it's cute!

I've only had mine about a month though, I don't know how often you need to change the cutting pad, sorry.
