I don't know what happen to the one I had in the early 90's - lol
but was thinking with fall upon us and everyones crazy schedual right now - it would be great to throw the food in the am (when I actually HAVE time to cook) and run around all day doing school and activity pick ups and drop offs, and the new house stuff - and everyone can eat - when they get time - on those hectic days!
Anyone else do this??
know any good recipe sites??

Edited: Wait, sorry, I thougt you were looking for advice on which one to buy! I guess I should read threads before posting!

Anyway, my fav is also very simple. Take a roast (pork, beef, whatever) put it in the pot. Add a packet of dry onion soup mix, sliced mushrooms (optional) and a can of condenced mushroom soup. Cook on low (4 to 8 hours depending on size of roast) and serve. Makes it's own gravy!

I have started using mine a lot more since having DS.

I like the cookbook Fix It and Forget It. :)

I use my crock pot all the time...I love the fact that when we get home supper is almost done.

My familys favorite is a pork roast with about a quarter of a bottle of barb sauce...cook on low all day..,when you get home, shred the roast and add more bbq sauce....serve on bread or whatever kind of dinner rolls you prefer.

I also love it for beef roast.

If I have more time, I have a recipe where you brown burger with onion and celery...add a pkt of gravy mix...put on the bottom layer..add a can of corn and then a bag of frozen shredded hashbrowns...cover with cream of mushroom soup and shredded cheddar cheese..cover and cook....

Rival makes one that has a digital timer, you can set it so it turns on at what ever time and temperature you want. I don't have one yet, but I've put it on my bridal registry. I think I'll like it because not all my crock pot receipes require 8 to 10 hours of cooking (which is how long I'm gone for during the week), especially my roasts.

The one I bought is rival -
it is 6 qt and you can set it to 10 hours, 8 hours, six hours or 4 hours - then it will automatically go to WARM after the set time - it even came with a carry case to bring it on the go to parties or whtever (which might be handy when DH is at the new house to pack it up and bring him dinner!)

Oh my Dh would LOVE this one -
puttin it on the grocery list mmmmmmmm

I have one that I would like to use more. Every time I try a new recipe, the picky eaters in my house won't touch what I make. I end up eating leftovers at lunch for a couple of days.

Here are a couple of sites I bookmarked.

I try to find recipes other people have made before. This way, I can get their suggestions as to what needs to be added or left out. I might have to buy the Fix It and Forget It book.

crock pots are really fun to take with you to disney resorts. i cook all of my meals like that when i'm there.

I just bought one too and I'm using for the first time today. I made Chicken Cacciatore. Here is the recipe:

2 medium onions, thinly sliced
2 1/2 3- pound brioler fryer chicken, cut up (I used whole boneless chicken breasts instead)
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 1-lb can tomotoes
1 8-ounce can tomato sauce
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 - 2 teaspoons oregano leaves, crushed
1/2 teaspoon basil, crushed
1/2 teaspoon celery seed (optional)
1 bay leaf
1/4 cup dry white wine
(not in the recipe, but I also add mushrooms)

Cook on low for 6 to 8 hours (high 2 1/2 to 4 hours) Serve over pasta.

I LOVE my crockpot! Everything always turns out soooo tender! Plus my DH thinks I slaved away in the kitchen when all I really do is dump everything in and leave it :rotfl:

I use this website for all kinds of crock pot recipes (450+ crockpot recipes!) - be sure and look at the ones with 5 star ratings (and also be sure to scroll down to see all the recipes as sometimes there's a little blurb about a product right in the middle of the page that makes you think it's the bottom!)

Have fun!

DH loves my "chicken stew". Cut chicken breasts into bite sized pieces. (Spray the crock first with Pam!!). Toss them in the pot.

Drain canned veggies (Veg-all, green beans, corn, and those pre-sliced potatos).

THen mix in cream of chicken soup. How big of a can/how many little cans depends on how much of the other ingredients you use. I think I normall use two cans of soup. Mix well and set to cook all day.

The juices from the meat cooking really help it along.

Serve with biscuits.

Or just toss cream of chicken with herbs soup in with chicken breasts (not cut up) for a main dish.

There is a "crock pot" thread in the Cooking forum. Great recipes in there.

I love to throw in chicken and cover with bbq sauce, cook on low all day and then it just falls off the bone.

I love to use mine but lately I only use it for the meat portion of the meal. My teens don't like their food mixed up.... I have pork chops in mine today.

We use ours all the time in the winter. One of my favorite things is country ribs. My DH throws them in the crock pot with some BBQ sauce. If he feels like it, he will then throw them on the grill for just a bit for flavor. They turn out soooo yummy!

We also like pork and beef roasts done in the crock pot.

I just started using my crock-pot more frequently. Mondays and Thursday just don't allow enough time to cook when DD has Vision Therapy at 6pm, and we get home from work between 5 and 5:30. I should use it everday to avoid indecisions of what to make and finally sitting down to eat at 7 or later.

Last weekend I made a whole chicken for the first time. It turned out really well and was so easy to cut the pieces apart (I always struggle removing the legs).

I also make pork roasts and beef roasts. I like pork loin and rump roasts. I add a can of beef broth (or chicken with the pork, I've done both). Sometimes I might add other seasons.

A tip I picked up at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/crockpot_recipes/?yguid=109587852 is to make aluminum foil balls to support the meat (I tried this with the chicken) and keep it off the bottom if you don't have a rack.

This one makes the rump roast kind of like Italian beef.

Just poor a jar of pepperocinni (sp) peppers and the juice over the top and cook all day Yumm!

I just love my Crock pot! In the Fall/Winter I also use my bread machine alot when I use the crock pot. MY bread machine has a timer on it, so I can have the bread finish when we are ready to eat.

I love to use mine also in the summer months, as sometimes it is just to hot to want to turn on the oven and heat up the whole house. I am a morning person and just love to get everything done and have the rest of the day to myself! :goodvibes
