I am under constant attack

I can understand how you feel because I sometimes feel that a dig at a candidate I'm supporting is a dig at what I believe and value and that is where it becomes personal. Since I've realized that the vast majority of DISers are republicans I don't post much on the political threads. I didn't get enjoyment out of that kind of thread on the DB and it being on the CB makes little difference.

Why don't you start a fun thread or 2 to help flush out the political ones.

I will read the political threads, but I won't post on them. Most people here will debate their points nicely, but a few get down right insulting...on both sides. For awhile the posts were definately anti-Bush, now we are seeing a few more anti- Kerry posts. It swings back and forth. And IMO, most posters are not attacking anyone personally, they attack the candidate. Attacking someone you don't even really know, except for what you see on TV and in the print shouldn't have any bearing on your real life. Just keep supporting your choice of candidates and may the best man win.

I only visit political threads to examine the wreckage.

Seriously, I feel that the nation is so polarized for this election that no amount of "why my candidate is better" or "who did what in 1972" is going to change anyone's vote. Lately I've just been reading the fluff threads here and then getting the heck outta Dodge.

I'm a socially liberal Republican, and from what I can tell, the Republican world looks a lot more black-and-white, thus the foaming at the mouth. This is based solely on my personal observations.

I honestly don't see how you can go from Kerry being attacked to "I'm under attack"??

Threads or posts slamming one candidate or another does not constitute a personal attack against any one poster.

I have to agree with this, just because I don't like a canidate for office, and I'm critical of the things he/she says or does (or has done in the past) doesn't mean that I dislike the people that support that canidate. As long as someone isn't saying things about those that support a canidate then I don't think you should take it personally.

Sometimes I feel that way too, from a couple of diehart Democrats. I make the mistake of voicing my opinion on a political subject and then my opinion gets attacked.

When will I learn??

I remember distictly being told I was a Repugnican (sp?), narrow-minded, an idiot for supporting Bush. I have NEVER called anyone names or insulted them for supporting Kerry...although I have voiced my opinion on him.

It goes both ways, not just Republicans doing the attacking or bashing, not by a long shot.

Any opposition can feel like an attack, it is up to you (general you) to realize this isn't personal, election years always bring out strong opinions and walk away if it becomes too much. That's pretty much all you can do.
I feel like I and my candidate are under constant attack.
I feel that way too, but I support the other guy. I guess it's a catch 22.

:charac2:

I'm sorry you feel that way, but for someone who has "bleeding heart liberal" as a tag, you should be prepared for people disagreeing with your viewpoint. Just as if I had right- wing- moral- christian -conservative tagged on me. (for example, because I'm not). I don't often post on poitical threads because it is pointless. I also take "attacks" on my candidate with a grain of salt. Look who they are coming from and move on.

I HATE POLITICS!

THANK YOU!

YEAH! ;)

I have to agree with the other posters who have said, dont take it personally. Unless it is a direct attack on you, which isnt allowed here, most digs are at the candidate. Just because you support that candidate, doesnt means anyone is saying anything against you.
And coming from someone who tries to avoid political threads at all costs, I have seen it go both ways.

For the longest time, I've noticed liberal Democrats being quite outspoken. Dominate. Heck, I didn't even think there were Republicans on this board at all. The bashing of President Bush was a daily occurance.

So I'm kind of surprised by this thread.

I rarely post on the political threads. Generally it isn't pretty.
And they get worse by the post. I think everyone is entitled to their opinion. It would be nice if people tried to contain themselves, and be civil but it isn't going to happen. People do get passionate and out go the manners. I've seen it on both sides. Doesn't make it right. It happens.

If you feel attacked just think how the candidates feel. Their wife says something stupid, it looks bad for the candidate. Some guy fires someone for having a bumper sticker on their car, the candidate looks stupid. Who slept with who, blah, blah, blah. None of us could possibly live up to the standards that we put on these candidates, but the media, the opposing team, and society expect perfection.

I would really hate to run for president. One time when I was 9 I chased a boy around and kissed him. Then we went up into his treehouse. I would sure hate for that to get out in public :) So, would he. I think we went up there and played house. I said house, not doctor!

I understand the campaigning and I think it's great that people are for their man. I see nothing wrong with the little bumper stickers on the posts. What really bothers me are the personal attacks saying that Bush is the wors president. Or other personal attackks that really aren't true. I think to be so blunt like that is disrespectful. He might not be the best, but he is the man doing the job.

And, it also bothers me when people generalize. Because one person in the democrat or republican party feels a certain way, then group us all together.

Well, I have a lot to think about. Hmmm. Where to begin.

As far as having "bleeding heart liberal" on my own tag.. I do bleed. Figuratively. I hate when people, any people get attacked and I find it so disturbing when there is this bantering back and forth. It is so negative. I also care/bleed for what happens to my fellow man. If I have a little less so others can have a marginally decent life instead of what I seen now in the world, well, I am willing to do that. Liberal. I believe each of us has rights and responsibilities. We have the right to voice our opinions and to feel hurt by things other say. I guess what "hurts" me most is the stress each person seems to project. Just like my analogy that some Republicans seem to be foaming at the mouth. There is so much furvor in their words. Yes, I realize we Democrats and Independents can be the same way, remember this is how I feel. Please don't get offended, it is not a personal attack. I don't know, I guess it is impossible to be totally neutral and still plan to vote for one candidate.

I enjoy it here but since the debate board disolved it is so stressful. Sometimes I can take it and sometimes I can't. It has a lot to do with RL too. With the constant negativity in the press, on both sides, and Iraq with our boys getting killed daily as well as all those Iraquis, I just wish we could have our political debates be more calm. How is that for a run on sentence? See, I can still have a small sense of humor.

Can we all just take care with the attacks? Is it necessary to call each candidate names, make accusations? Is it necessary to link all the crap on the news? Those of us who care watch the news just as much as you do and those who don't won't look anyway.

Sorry if this is distressing anyone else, maybe it is time for a break.

Everytime I come to the CB now it seems there are about 20% or more political posts. I am a liberal Democrat. I feel like I and my candidate are under constant attack.

When I post on a thread, I try no to be negative. I say what I have to say, make a comment about how wonderful the gold ole USA is that we are free to do so and go on with my business. Lately there seems to be this barrage about every little comment, newscast, speech, personel change, on and on and on. Man, this is becoming so unpleasant. Why do I feel people are getting pleasure out of belittling someone who has dedicated himself to public service? Please note I am not saying he is good/bad, right/wrong, saint/evil. No, I am saying, once again, we all are intitled to our opinions. Is this the right place to be constantly putting negative feelings out there? Do any of you feel that might convince anyone else to switch to your choice of candidate?

Right now I feel that most republicans are foaming at the mouth, ready to jump down my throat. Honestly, I feel angry but try my best to push that anger out of the way, wear my Kerry button and drive my car with the Kerry bumper sticker and just try to stay out of the way of anyone that it happens to tick off.

Yeah, I know I am about to get flamed. So what. I am ENTITLED to my OPINION. That is all this is, my opinion. It is not an attack of you personally. It is simply a statement about how I am feeling each time I come here to enjoy the DIS. It hasn't been very pleasant lately.

Again, JMHO.
I feel the same way, and I haven't even been posting, just reading.

It makes me know that I am right in my decision to support Kerry if Bush supporters are like that! I don't trust him or them. The way they talk just convinces me more to vote against their candidate. ::yes::

One more thing. I think the world as a whole has become so much more violent in the past few years. It is certainly coming out in the way we "talk" to each other on this nice friendly little DISNEY board.

Like, for example, in your previous post? ;)

 Oh boy, here we go! I knew this thread wouldn't last very long before it deteriorated. :(

I don't get it. Geezer just posted an opinion, and now he is deteriorating the thread? I actually am sorry I opened this. I have been careful not to read most of the political threads, since they only make me frustrated. I do think attacking Geezer (who obviously dosn't post much) is unfair.

Well, sorry but I took his post as an attack on Republicans and unfair. Everyone has differing opinions as this thread is showing quite nicely. I did NOT attack him. I voiced my opinion as well. That IS my opinion.

Opinions aren't always nice. Like if I said Democrats are idiots, IMHO. That wouldn't be nice and I'd be called on it. Of course, I do not feel that way. I've never ever insulted a Democrat. Only their candidate.
