I am under constant attack

Everytime I come to the CB now it seems there are about 20% or more political posts. I am a liberal Democrat. I feel like I and my candidate are under constant attack.

When I post on a thread, I try no to be negative. I say what I have to say, make a comment about how wonderful the gold ole USA is that we are free to do so and go on with my business. Lately there seems to be this barrage about every little comment, newscast, speech, personel change, on and on and on. Man, this is becoming so unpleasant. Why do I feel people are getting pleasure out of belittling someone who has dedicated himself to public service? Please note I am not saying he is good/bad, right/wrong, saint/evil. No, I am saying, once again, we all are intitled to our opinions. Is this the right place to be constantly putting negative feelings out there? Do any of you feel that might convince anyone else to switch to your choice of candidate?

Right now I feel that most republicans are foaming at the mouth, ready to jump down my throat. Honestly, I feel angry but try my best to push that anger out of the way, wear my Kerry button and drive my car with the Kerry bumper sticker and just try to stay out of the way of anyone that it happens to tick off.

Yeah, I know I am about to get flamed. So what. I am ENTITLED to my OPINION. That is all this is, my opinion. It is not an attack of you personally. It is simply a statement about how I am feeling each time I come here to enjoy the DIS. It hasn't been very pleasant lately.

Again, JMHO.

I'm a liberal Republican and I'm not ready to jump down anyone's throat. I've been on a lot more attack threads defending Bush than attacking Kerry, going on 4 years now, and I'm not overly crazy about him to begin with. So I can sympathize.

I'm a registered Independent. I definitely vote for the person - not the party. What I've noticed is that there have been times when there have been a huge number of liberal Democrat posts (like when things were going better for Kerry), and lately, there are more Republican posts (perhaps because things are going well for Bush right now).

There have plenty of attacks against both candidates, IMO - not just Kerry. I think it's kind of in keeping with this election year. Things have been pretty dirty all around.

Maybe take a break from the political threads. On the other hand, I always notice the ones knocking Bush.

JMHO... <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/21/21_1_5v.gif' alt='Vote Bush' border=0></a>

RNMOM, I can certainly understand how you feel. I too have noticed quite a few political posts (and I'm sure the number will only increase as the election nears) that frequently turn ugly. The ironic thing is that I'm a conservative Republican, and I feel that my candidate is being viciously attacked, just as you feel about Senator Kerry. I think the "mudslinging" happens on both sides of the aisle. And you'll get no flames from me--it saddens me too. I wish we could all just disagree respectfully. I try to do the exact same thing you do if I respond to a political thread (say my point nicely and not insult either candidate or other posters). I just wish more people had the same courtesy.

The political threads are not something I can look at everyday, I have to be in the right frame of mind, which is very rarely. I tend to get annoyed with certain people I might otherwise really like, and find myself siding with other people who are usually my polar opposite. Hence the reason I just skip most of the posts on the CB, and try to start new threads that are more to my liking.

RNMOM, Yes you are entitled to your opinion BUT so aren't Republicans.
If you choose to talk politics here you will get bashed from both sides. But I agree this board seems to have more pro-Republicans. Don't take it so seriously...Jeez!!!!
In case you are wondering I'm independent. I think no matter who gets elected we are all screwed anyways. Are there any honest politicians out there?

:)

rnmom--frankly, I just try not to even open the political threads. They have gotten so heated that I don't want to be involved. It won't change my mind and the attacks just make me angry.

I'm lucky to work in a college--Social Science Department which includes Political Science. We have both Republicans and Democrats as instructors. Two instructors from opposing parties were just discussing the Republican National Convention in front of my desk (one was a delegate.) It was a thoughtful, humorous conversation--no attacking, no name calling--just lighthearted teasing on both sides. It's refreshing to see that not everyone is so sure that their party has the one true candidate and every discussion does not need to end up with hard feelings and name calling.

I think it depends who is posting this week. There's enough negative stuff in the news for both parties to have a field day.

The Dems have been bashing Bush for months. Now, I guess it's Kerry's turn to take a little heat.

Personally, I stay away from the political threads.

Lately, the threads have been more pro Bush. I think there is more to report on Bush's campaign since the convention. You'd have to admit the polls are swinging in Bush's favor, but it's cyclical.

But aren't you just "adding fuel to the fire" by starting this thread? Yes, you are entitled to your opinion, but so is everyone else. And I think that saying things like "most republicans are foaming at the mouth" just adds to it.

I don't go into the political threads nearly as much as I used to.

But I see mudslinging being done, viciously, on both sides. I'm getting tired of it. I'm an independent. I don't particularly like either guy. I like Bush about a fraction of a smidgen more than I like Kerry, wo I'm probably voting for Bush, but like Rippington'sFan said, I think no matter who wins in Nov. , not a heck of a lot if going to change.

Take a break from the political threads for a while. It helps.

I beleive this happens every election. I rememebr the same complaint being posted by others in 2000. Hang in there. It should settle down around January.

I honestly don't see how you can go from Kerry being attacked to "I'm under attack"??

Threads or posts slamming one candidate or another does not constitute a personal attack against any one poster.

I'm with you RNMOM.

I opened this thread because I was curious to see if it was about rain/wind/hurricane. I DO NOT OPEN political threads. I truly wish that there was a special board just for the political topics. I hate seeing the wonderful DIS CB used in this way.

RL is tough enough - gimme fluff!!

Hmmm, perhaps we could call it "The Debate Board". Nah, that would never work (lol).

Yeah, I know I can take a break but I am on during the night usually and that seems to be when all the political posts get parked on page 1.

All the stuff I said on my first post is just my opinion. How I feel. Whether or not it is true and valid for others is up for debate...oops, ignore that comments, please.

Interesting. You feel like you are under attack yet say you are not personally attacking anyone - isn't it possible that the other posters feel the same way? The political threads require a thick skin. Sometimes I feel like I'm wearing it and I'm willing to post and endure the madness. Other times my skin is a little thin, those times I don't post (heck I don't even read) the threads.
