ok for my fiancees bday i am taking her to dlp for a short break it will also be 1 year since u proposed there, the trip is all booked and she has no idea so now i am trying to come up with a really fun way of telling her,

i was thinking of drecorating our whole house out the morning before we go in her favourite disney theme which is pirates of the carribean, small world and anytbing mini mouse, i want each room to be a different theme with music and everything eventually lrading to the final room which will contain a special invite along with the eurostar tickets! Its ambitious but has anyone got any advice on where to get cheapish decorations from? I would also welcome any suggestions!:goodvibes

OMG! Ambitious!! What an awesome idea though!

I would say start looking in 99pstore/£1 stores especially for pirates bits. You could make her a treasure map with clues around the house (sounds a bit childish but I would like it and I am 27 :rotfl2:)

I will have a think about other ideas!

Oh you can never be too childish for disney!! We are 25 and 23 and go at least once a year!! :rotfl2:

I like the treasuremap idea!
You could get her small gifts (a polka dot bow or headband for in her hair for the minnie room for example) related to the themes and hide one in each theme room. So she has to unwrap one in every room and then in the end she gets the big one; the tickets and the whole suprise!

For decorations:
- Toy stores! they often have balloons, guirlandes and stuff for kids parties in pirate themes, should work! Or just buy some plain balloons and draw Pirates and Minnie heads on them.
- Put some teddybears or something you have in the pirates room and give them an eye patch. Easy to make in black paper. Snatch some of her jewelry or other shiny stuff and put this in an improvised treasure box.
- Making guirlandes is not that hard. Just print some textures/prints you like (polkadots for Minnie, for example) and cut them in bands. Glue them in rings and true each other (u probably made them like this when you were a kid!), add some red and white balloons.
- Just print some big posters/pictures of Pirates, Minnie, ... and hang them all up on the walls. You can even add your own Happy Birthday line or something.
- Add theme music to every room

your idea puts my previous attempt to shame!!!

we got married in 2008 and for almost a year i kept our honeymoon a secret. i kept tellin my wife to be that we couldnt afford to go.

but i secretly booked our honeymoon to spain without my wife knowing and one day whilst she was in work , i packed all her favourite clothes and turned up at her shop in the middle of the day with our suitcases and a big spanish hat on my head and said

"come on dear, we're off on our honeymoon"

Are you serious??? what???

but we cant afford it........can we?

are you serious?????

Have you packed my hair straightners?

she had the biggest smile i had ever seen on a woman

her face was a picture.......as were her work collegues!

only 2 people knew of our trip, myself and my wifes boss!

your ideas are amazing and if you pull it it off then i congratulate you young man! best of luck!

Thanks for the suggestions, i think the pirates theme will be the final room as its her favourite disney film! Im really looking forward to doing it! I also need to figure out a way of getting her out the house for a few hours while i decorate!!

These might be nice for the pirates room?

Send her shopping with a friend. Always works when my boyfriend wants to get me out of the way. :rotfl2:

No real suggestions but just wanted to say that you have a very lucky girlfriend. :goodvibes

wow you are one very thoughtful guy.

I remember last year with how much you really put into your trip away and proposal and i logged on everyday to read your trip report to know how it went :)

makes me smile :)

My tip for accesories would be kids birthday party favours you can get stuff for nearly every theme!
Look in the cheap £1 shops

Good luck
xx

Thank you all for ur suggestions!! Well i have roughly 2 months to plan it all!! Ill be sure to keep u updated and will of course post photos! :goodvibes

in 99p store today they had mickey mouse wipe clean boards (with a pen) that you could hang somewhere and write a msg/clue on?
I got one for hubbies surprise! The also had buzz lightyear keyrings and mickey mouse straws .. hth

*UPDATE*

Ok I am really struggling to find things! I really want to do the rooms out nicely! I have kinda decided on the order, just outside the front door I am going to have a Pirates Banner, then go through the front door and I want a Little Mermaid theme with 'Under The Sea' music playing, then upto bedroom one, is going to be Captain EO with 'We Are Here To Change The World' playing, then bedroom 2 will be general Mickey/Minnie with 'When You Wish Upon A Star' playing and then finally into the living room with the Pirates theme and 'Yo Ho Ho Its A Pirates Life For Me' playing.

So far I have some flashing LED lights and a Captain EO poster for the Captain EO room.

Oh and I have the music sorted, but I am really struggling to find other things for the other rooms! I want baloons, banners, scene setters, little accerssories, anything really thats going to look really good!

Any more ideas where I could get this stuff from would be great! I have a week and 3 days to go!!! AHHHHH!!!

Hi
Have you asked on the creative designs board on here? There's some very talented people on there that may design things for you to print and use - like banners, chocolate wrappers etc.
Good luck I'm sure she'll love it.

Ebay would be my best bet - you can get almost anything there, it seems, but at just over a week you might be cutting it fine to get it delivered in time.

Ok thanks for everyone's suggestions!!! Well it all got pulled off and went very well and we are now at st pancras awaiting the eurostar :), I ended up mainly with a pirates theme, on the outside of the house I had a pirate banner across the window, and then as she was walking into the house I had the main pirates theme playing with me dressed up as jack sparrow :rotfl2:, and then in the hallway there was a treasure map and a letter for her with a clue t the next room, as yo walk down the hallway there was a massive Disney castle balloon and a big "pirates beware" door banner and then walking upstairs going int the main the bedroom I had some neon light up pirate balloons with a massive captain eo Michael Jackson poster and then a Minnie mouse teddy bear dressed as a pirate with a few other decorations, she then found the next clue which made her a captain and she had to go down to the dreaded pirate pass :rotfl2:, just before entering there she had another letter warning her of the massive pirate big foot teddy bear and his little minions guarding the treasure :rotfl2:, upon entering pirate pass there were treasure chest, pirate boat and balloon decorations and also wall decorations a tale cover, pirate invites and napkins and then finally in the corner was the "pirate big foot teddy bear" which she had to defeat with my pirate sword to get the treasure! :rotfl2: and then opening the treasure chest there were fake coins in there along with one last letter inviting us both to DLP for 5 nights :goodvibes

Thanks again for the suggestions guys!!
