WTH?? Everything I pull out of the deep freeze is all icy and gross. I dont know when its safe to use like that. Anyone know? :confused3

You need to double bag stuff that goes into a deep freeze, especially if it is a frost free variety.

It's safe, it just may not taste the best.

I use that sticky Glad Press and Seal Freezer wrap, then I put that into a Ziploc freezer bag.

Get a Food Sealer machine. I LOVE mine. Our meat lasts much longer and looks and tastes better. We can reseal cheese after we use part and have some left. Lots of great uses and a great investment. Especially if you like to buy in bulk like we do!

Oh. I didnt know that :lmao:
Even the bags of frozen veggies from the store?
:headache:

Especially those as the plastic they use is so thin. The only thing we don't double bag is meat from the butcher that is well wrapped in freezer paper.

Freezer burn isn't going to hurt you, but the food will be compromised. I have had enough freezer burned food that I will no longer eat it.

What kind do you have? I might check into this!

I have one by Food Saver. They make big expensive things but also smaller home versions. I think it was around $100 but the investment has been well worth it. We buy most all of our meat at Costco.

You freeze grapes??

I freeze them individually on a tray and then put them into a bag. My kids love to eat them frozen in the summer.

Not sure how long they can be frozen. We really just eat them in the summer. Although I did toss some into some fruit leather I was making in the fall, but those were cooked and dried so I don't know what the taste of just the grapes would be.

I usually don't have much problem with freezer burn and I don't double bag anything. I just use the heavier zip top bags and try to get as much air as possible out of them. I also no longer have a frost-free freezer and I think that seems better with the pre-packaged frozen vegetables.

lol - my mom always ate frozen grapes when she was dieting.

I googled "freezer burn" after throwing away yet another bag of groceries. I ended up on some lady's video talking all about how to avoid it, and her main point was that you don't want any air around the food. Apparently, your freezer changes temp all the time, and it's enough of a flucuation to cause the air in your packages to thaw and refreeze, and the resulting ice crystals are what cause freezer burn. Who knew :confused3

Anyway, she was all about using heavy wrap and vacuum bags (of any kind - this wasn't an ad). She said the absolute worst way to freeze is the way I've always done it - buy those trays of meat, realize at the last minute you won't make that dish, and throw it in the freezer still in the flimsy store wrap.

So I got those ziplock bags with the little air pump and have been using them for six months now. What a difference! Not one freezer burn, the food is way fresher, and it's easier to defrost.

I didn't get the all-out vacuum seal program b/c we don't have a big freezer, and this was a less expensive way to and works fine for me. It actually paid for itself pretty early on, due to no more wasted food.
