I am stealing space from Disney

I have 3 children, all under the age of 9 but over the free age of 3.

My children love the All Star resorts.They cannot get enough of the theming. They would not care about going to any of the parks if it meant they could play at the resort all day.

According to Disney, because I have a family of 5, I cannot book a room at the All Star, because it only sleeps 4. They really should think about changing that to 4 ADULTS. All 3 of my children fit in the double bed. Even if it were too crowded, my youngest could fit in a crib if he had to. How are we taking up more space than if my youngest was 2? I am not booking Port Orleans, not because we can't afford it, but because my kids love the All Star. Port Orleans would just be a room to them. All Star is a playground. I refuse to pay for a 2nd room just for one 5 year old. Sorry.

Am I trying to start something here? No. I am trying to figure out why people get so upset when other families break the rules a little. I am the one that is going to burn in Hell. So just take comfort in that.

I really doubt the anyone said you were going to "burn in hell" for trying to book a family of 5 into a room with a max. occupency of 4. Every family of 5 is told to book 2 rooms or a larger room for a party of 5.

It is for legal and safety reason hotels do this. All hotels have these rules not just Disney.

I am not so sure that is Disney setting these policies as it is the fire marshall. There are only so many people allowed to occupy a certain amount of space to comply with fire code, note busses, elevators, bars and dining rooms have these capacities also. So please follow the occupany rules to keep your family and all others safe should there be an emergency.
Myself I love the All Stars too, but can't imagine cramming 4 of us into one room so therefore we are getting 2 connecting rooms for 4 of us, 2 adults and 2 kids 15 & 5.

Dis-Bandit, Personally, I think what other people do is their own business. But I hope you have thick skin because you are going to need it.
The suggestion that you will get the most is to book 2 rooms. We have a family of 5, but all of mine are over 11. We thought about 2 rooms at the value just because of the idea of having 2 bathrooms. But, we decided to stay at the CR just for the convenience. Good Luck to you and I hope you have a wonderful trip...

The only problem I think I would seriously consider would be the fact that Early Entry into the parks could be jeopordized.

To entry early, all people in your party requiring a ticket must have a room key. They will only give you four room keys at the hotel.

Other than that, to each is his own!!!

What you do is up to you. And I am not judging you...

But as another poster said, the reasoning is not because of Disney policy, it has to do with the fire marshall's office and the maximum room capacity is determined by the fire marshall.

Another thing to consider, as I have seen this posted on several other threads, is if you are caught you will be asked to leave or get another room immediately. At that point you may not be able to get adjoining rooms and if another room is not available then you will have to leave. They make no exceptions.

I can speak from experience as far as knowing how hard it is to get an affordable room with a large family. We have four kids and have faced this situation many times. (But, no, we have not gone against policy to get into a room.)

If you do what you are saying, you will lose some of the perks of being onsite. You will not be able to participate in the extra early hour in the morning or the extra three hours offered at a selected park some nights. It doesn't sound like that matters to you, though. It sound like you just plan on hanging around the all stars.

Unfortuneatly, this is true. In Florida there is a law that only allows 4 over age 3 to a room unless the room is built and approved by the state for more than 4.
I too love the All Stars hotels. They can't be beat. I have visited WDW more than a dozen times with the 1st time in 1971. I've stayed at FW, Disney Inn, a few the of Hotels on hotel Blvd., CBR and the towers at the Contemporary. I got see the MK from my balcony at the Contemporary and I'm happy I got to experience it once. I just prefer the All Star Resorts.
The theaming is pure Disney.
So I know what you are saying. I really wish they would build (or renovate) several rooms to each of their All Star resortsthat will accommodate larger families.

I am not going to comment on whether or not I believe what you are doing is moral. Just point out some legistical issues you might encounter. They will not let you register five people over the age of 3yrs in a room at the All Stars. This means that one of you will not have a room key which also acts as your resort ID. Therefore you will not be able to use EMH for your entire party. Also, you do run the risk of being asked to leave if your are reported as having more then the correct number of people due to fire code ordinances. As long as you know the risks and are willing to deal with them then I am not going to lecture you on morality.

I agree with what you're saying. I don't have children so this doesn't really apply to me but I can understand a mother not wanting her children seperated. Let's think of the scenario if her children were like 6, 5 and 3. I wouldn't put a 6 year old off in a seperate hotel room by himself. Talk about a fire hazard. If a fire broke out, instead of having all your little chick-a-dees right in the room to headcount and scurry out you'd have to try and get the ones in the room out and then go to the other room for the one lone child.

Like I said, I neither agree or disagree with the OP and it doesn't apply to our situtation but I'm not naive in knowing that many families have 3 or more children (I'm one of 3) and the All-Stars are not only a great theme but a better price for larger families. Disney should consider creating rooms at the All Stars that would accomodate at least 5 people.

I think i would pay a higher price. Did I read that the AS has something like over 2000 rooms? Couldn't they modify half of them to sleep 5, and charge the moderate price for just those rooms? You have some people forced to book POR because it is less expensive than 2 rooms at AS, but they would pay the same price to stay at the AS, I am sure. I know I would! I don't think they would have a problem renting out those rooms.

Someone above mentioned a petition. how do we get one started????? What are the minimum number of sigs needed? I am sure we could get all the sigs we needed right here on the DIS.

I don't know if the OP is real or not, or just trying to start a fight. But I know this post just made me realize maybe we CAN get Disney to recognize the popularity of the AS with kids, and they should look into making it available to larger families. JMO.

they do offer all-star accomodations for more than four... it's called two rooms... connecting... we had connecting rooms at pop last year and with the door between open all the time (i hung a towel over the top so it could not get accidentally closed), i did not feel like my children were 'separated' from me... the were "right there" closer than they are at home! and you get an extra tv and bathroom! what more could you ask for?!

We have 2 rooms at the POP for 3 nights. I am paying $259 for that other room. That is a bit pricey for a 3-day tv rental.

No you should never put a small child in a hotel room by themself....

If you have only one adult and several kids they will guarantee connecting rooms.

When I was growing up our family was the dreaded number "5" too. My parents had to end up buying two rooms. You would think that Disney would realize not every family is the perfect "4" and not every family can afford Deluxe accomadations. Disney should have made a value resort for larger families.
No flaming from me. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do. Only you can decide if you would feel right about doing it.

What's so wrong with the Port Orleans Riverside as opposed to getting 2 rooms??? You'll save $$$... $134/night as opposed to $79/night x 2 and you're all together...
