I am soooo confused...help w/ early Dec trip, please! (A bit long, but not too bad)

Packages, codes, etc.....all too confusing. But we're in a slight state of panic because we haven't booked anything yet.

Trip will be 12/6-12/14 (roughly), w/ 2 families - 4 adults, 3 children ages 4-7, maybe 1 set of grandparents. We stayed in POR (Riverside) in Dec 00 when it was Dixie Landings. Enjoyed the stay there - the price was right w/ DC membership, loved the food court, etc.

This year, have pretty much ruled out POR due to the renovations, so we're considering CSR or CBR -- we're pretty much 'moderate' people. Would consider upgrade to deluxe (probably AKL) w/ right package, codes, etc. in December. Will purchase A/P to take advantage of available codes at that time.

Does it just make sense to just book now the moderate we like better between CSR and CBR (at rack rates), and then wait for codes? Some of the FTP rates for the deluxes makes them possible, but there's obviously no guarantee that the package will still be around in December's value season. I guess what I'm asking is whether we're committing to something -- i.e. rack rates, or a moderate resort when a package could make a deluxe affordable -- by booking now. Can we change in, say, October? November?

Also, we saw on Mousesavers that moderates have very limited availability, probably due to the POR renovations. Is this just for this summer, what with the packages and all, or will it be for the length of the renovations?

By all means book now! You can call at any time and change ressies as codes or discounts become available. Don't buy your AP until you see if you need it. You don't have to have it to book a room at AP prices, just need it at check in.

We are booked at WL earlier in December and just sitting tight hoping for discounts. Got some great ones 2002 and 2001 November/December.

You can always add the code to you price and get the discount I did this after it was all paid and had a credit to use at hotel or they put it back on card after trip. If you want POR just keep calling it will open up. people often book and then change things. I have booked at other hotles and then changed to POR as it opened up I use DC 800 number so no extra cost to keep checking.

I always book well in advance at rack rates. I just want to make sure I have a room when I go. The last three years I've been going I've been lucky codes came out after I booked, and I was able to rebook using the codes.

We are going to be there that week too!!! What we did was to book ASSp months ago at AAA rates. What we really wanted was AK or WL. WE had planned to wait for the codes to come out and then switch if the price is right, but i think we have decided to go ahead and book WL now and hope for that code to come by the fall. We will then apply that code. We have done this in the pass with no problems. We now have to decide if we keep the AS reservation until we find out about the codes , or just stick with WL no matter what we end up with. It's all a game. But oh so FUN.
