Sarah Palin has done an outstanding job of polarizing our country by demonizing a segment of our population, other Americans who pay taxes, contribute to the productivity of our country and are entitled to the equal rights of ALL Americans.

I've never understood why some Christians want to overthrow the government and our Constitution all while claiming this country was founded on Christian values as though American values are to be scorned and rebuked.

America's Constitution clearly states:
All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

Why do Americans tolerate the constant onslaught of some Christians as though their opinions have value to American ideals? I don't get it. :confused3
 

All of the candidates are devisive, divide and conquer, if you think the kind of change that's being promoted is good you should study the history of Europe in the 1930's, lemmings get slaughtered, and the sleeper is overthrowing the government with out firing a shot, and worst of all they have no tolerance, 4 years from now it will be to deep to change, I'll be down under before then, enjoying a good laugh on the plains
 
Actually, not all of the founding fathers were Christians, in fact, probably the majority were Deists. Deists acknowledged the probable existance of a supreme being, or beings, but also that there is a "natural order" of laws based on science and physical properties.

There was quite a divide in the founding Fathers, with a large minority being "fundamentalist Baptists" (a milder form than what the word implies today), and those Deists that believed in a supreme being or beings as well as more liberal Christians (some of which evolved into something similar to Christian Scientists and in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Christian Spiritualists.)

This divide is what prompted the founding fathers to insist upon the the First Amendment and the heavily implied separation between church and state.

Many founding fathers believed that morality was not the result of religious beliefs, but a natural order of right & wrong and good & evil that applied to all, without religious overtones.

That phrase was added to American currency, it is not part of the constitution or the amendments.

Just as the Pledge of Allegiance did not originally contain the phrase "under God" It was added under the Eisenhower administration. Interesting that the original did not contain the phrase, yet it was written by an ordained minister for the Boy Scouts.

You're right, as I stated before about 24 of them were Christians.

Mike, the first couple of pages that I read on this thread seemed more like a political and religious bashing so I took the other side, besides I like being the underdog!
 
Okay, if it's about love then why do we need a piece of paper to say we are married?

Because the state and federal government grant specific and fairly broad legal rights based upon that piece of paper. ;)

It is about having the same legal rights and responsibilites (and tools) to care for the person we love, as a hererosexual has to care for the person they love.

Why legally distinguish between any two person adult spousal relationship?
