Looking to book airfare June 13th from Phila, to Orlando on Air Tran. Isn't offering anything but business class, however day before and/or after can get a $99 flight. Why are they being evil :darth:

Almost all airlines divide up the seats into categories, so many economy seats, so many coach seats, etc. It so happens that for the day in question the only seats remaining when you looked are business class seats.

Categories (also called fare buckets) do not correspond with front, middle, or back of the plane; after you buy a ticket you still have a lot of flexibility for seat selection. Some of the "best" seats may be limited to the higher classes for advance selection.

Allotments can change as the airline re-reviews ticket purchases, and also the allotments can be different for different days such as the Sunday after Thanksgiving when the airline knows it can sell more seats at higher fares.

Are you willing to fly SW? Rates aren't out that far in advance but DING rates today are around $50!!!

I am, I was just trying to get some quotes. Not sure how Ding works, do you just sign up, or do you have to already have ressies?

airtran does this a lot this far out, but if you wait until closer then rates will more than likely open up. we are flying to sarasota to visit my dad in january, and a month ago all they had available was either really expensive coach or business class. i just paid $59 each way for our flights last week. their fares typically go on sale a little bit closer to the date of your trip. plus, you can see my other thread about air tran flight adjustments...a great bonus to flying air tran!! :cool1:

i would link to it, but i'm not sure how... :guilty:

You have the download from the SW site the Download DING is right there. Then you have to enter the airports (as if there would EVER be more than 2 you want fares to/from ;) ) and you will have a little icon appear on the bottom of your toolbar. It will show a little white box if there is currently a DING fare, just incase you are not at the computer when it DINGS (sounds like the DING in the airplane when the captain turns off the seatbelt sign)

The nice thing about SW is the will credit the fare if it goes down :) but your travel has to be completed within a year of the BOOKING. So gee that totally sucks if you were to get a credit and have to go back by this time next year!

Now the thing is you only have a few hours to book the fare. SW is not booking June yet, so DINGS wont be out for a while. They are just coming up now to December/January.

Good luck! :)
