I just called DCL & asked can I bring small scissors (like from a sewing kit or to cut moleskin) on board. The CM I spoke with checked with someone and told me I should bring them in my carry on so that I can explain what they are for.

He said if they are in a checked bag & found during the scan, they will probably search the bag. The idea is that it will be less trouble to tell security about the scissors when boarding than to have them be discovered in a checked bag. I have a bad feeling that this won't work!

I think I will go to the dollar store and buy some "disposable" scissors. This way, if anyone gives me a problem about taking them on board, I will just toss them. And I will precut my moleskin, clothing tags, loose threads, etc. :)

(This is just a question about the ship, not the airport :) )

If you're flying to Orlando, the scissors (in any form) in a carry-on will not get past airport security. They will confiscate it. It happened to us.

I'd be very surprised if DCL can find scissors, or even care about it, in a checked bag. It's not like you're bringing a hedge trimmer. Unlike the environment on an airplane, A small scissor should not be of any concern on a cruise ship. There are many much more dangerous potential weapons onboard the ship (like steak knifes in the dining room).

Definitely put your small scissors in a CHECKED bag to get them through the airport, if they search your carry-ons or see them in an x-ray they will be confiscated.

I have a very small Swiss army knife with scissors on them and as long as it is in my checked bag it's fine, even with DCL. :)

I'm not worried about flying. The rules there are pretty clear. I am only concerned about the cruise part of our trip!

DCL just told me NOT to put them in my CHECKED bag, but to CARRY THEM on the ship. He was quite clear about this. See why I am confused? :)

We were on the 5/18 Eastern. I had a manicure set which included scissors in my "checked" bag. We didn't have a problem with it at all. HTH

I've also had small manicure scissors, nail clippers, and tweezers in my checked suitcases the past 2 DCL cruises, with no problem. I placed them in an inside, zippered pocket of the suitcase.

You know, common sense tells me to put them in my checked bag and I'm glad it's worked for others.

I vote for the checked bag!! I did it in Nov., not even thinking it could be a problem. The woman boarding ahead of us had small scissors in her carry-on which were confiscated. When we got our luggage, mine were right where I left them, in my make-up case :D

I had a regular large pair of scissors in our checked bags - no problem on three cruises. I had my make up bag with me in a carry on and happened to throw a corkscrew into it at the last minute.....it was taken away from me but I had my scissors!
