I am going to wdw in 3 weeks time, i am taking my 15 yr old nephew i still havent had all the money for him to come, they still havent got any travel insurance for him and i still havent had a letter from them to show if asked that i have permission from his parents to take him out of the country. I feel so frustrated. :furious:

Yep know how you feel.

We took a family member, and it took a year later to finally pay us the money.

They were working and got a reasonable pay. And could only pay £50 every 2 months, but had the money to go out clubbing everyweek and buy designer clothes. a new outfit every month, we found it very frustrating.

They were never forward in handing the money over, we had to drop hints.

Never again will i offer to take someone else away.

That's always a difficult one. Probably you would have been better telling them you needed the money before you would be able to pay the balance - but that's no help now. I think you'll just have to swallow hard and say you need it now for your own spending money.

Good luck.

To ensure that you have the letter, I suggest you write one up yourself (as if it's written from his parents), print it out and then have them sign it.

As for expenses, I don't have any advice. When we've taken friends/relatives, we've paid for everything. Perhaps that's what his parents were assuming you would do? Was it ever made clear who was paying for what?

Probably better than letting the situation fester, you should bite the bullet and tell them exactly what you need from them, to the penny, as well as the letter and insurance.

I've got some money saved up and holiday insurance - i'm no trouble - i could come instead!! Joking apart, we once arranged to take DD friend to Ibiza with us. Her family told us she wasn't coming about 2 weeks before we left!! We always said never again.....and we have stuck to it. I won't even go away with family .....mother-in-law hints that she would like to go to Ibiza with us but i just ignore her ( i know its mean!!).

Couldn't contemplate taking somebody else with us to Florida - we have enough trouble organising ourselves!!

Hope you get it sorted - but don't let it upset your holiday. :thumbsup2

Oh dear,

I really sympathise with you .....money and families seldom mix.......it seems that nearly always someone comes off worse :furious:

Perhaps if you offered to take your nephew they ASSUMMED you were paying :confused3

I hope you get things sorted soon........it might be worth checking with your own travel insurers whether your nephew could be included on your policy - some are pretty easy going when adding kids ???

I took my 12 yr old neice to Orlando last year which i paid for. My sister only had to get my neice's spending money together, and she only got that the day before we left for the airport. Then had the cheek to TELL me if my neice rang out of money I should sub her the cash while we were out there.

I told her to give my neice some english money to change at the airport, as i'm not going to pay for her spending money as well (you got to be cruel sometimes). She eventually gave my neice an extra 75 quid.

My niece's quite good with her money and did'nt go mad over there, spent most of her time swimming and not shopping :thumbsup2 - she had plenty of cash left when we came back - so at the airport i told her to spend the lot before we went home.

So there was no DOLLARS or POUNDS left for sister :woohoo: :woohoo: .

I'm assuming your holiday must be already paid in full if you only have 3 wks left. I would call your nephew parents and tell them that the full payment & insurance is due by say friday/saturday or you will lose all money you have already paid. What i did with the permission letter was type it out myself and got my sister to sign ( i was never ask to show it).

I would also get an idea about how much spending money they intend to give your nephew, as you may end up paying for this as well. The Problem is that because your the auntie they don't feel obliged to pay up. (Thank goodness not all family members are like this :cloud9: ).

:furious: :furious: I am even more annoyed now....Just found out he has been nicked for handling stolen goods and he is in court on Friday....So does that mean he will not be able to come now??? :furious: :furious:

Sounds like at the very least it will mean a trip to the embassy to get him a visa. I don't mean to cast aspersions on your family members but are you sure you really want to take him with you if he's that much trouble :confused3

Just sending you a hug :grouphug:. Hope you can get everything sorted

oh dear , seems like your kind intentions are all going horribly wrong :furious:
i hope you get it sorted out and manage to enjoy your holiday :grouphug:

I am not taking him now there is no way he will get a visa in time and i will not risk getting there and getting sent home with him.

What a terrible shame I hope the whole thing won't ruin your holiday. At least though in the end him not going is HIS fault and not yours.

Hello all, my brother in law has just been round and he has phoned the embassy and there is no way he can go as it will be impossible for him to get a visa on time.I feel sorry for the boy as he has'nt had a lot of guidance since my sister and his dad split up. :sad1:

Oh dear Lesley, it has been a mess. I take it that you will have lost the money for nephew ? I hope that you will be able to put this behind you and go off and have a fantastic holiday :)

Yes Mandy we have lost money for our nephew but it is so close to our holiday now that is all we are going to think about and have a great time. :sunny:

What a shame

Is there no way you can make your sister? Pay you back for the money you have lost.May sound harsh but afterall it isn't your fault he can't go,why should you lose money on it.

I would but then again it's a good job i don't have a sister. ;)

Hope it sorts itself out. I'm sure you'll have a fantastic time in Orlando :)
