I am so angry with my sons school ....... and their coments on packed lunches!

That is very unprofessional and totally uncalled for.

At my children's school, school lunches are compulsory. This annoys me a little as I know that DS would much prefer to take his own packed lunch.

I hope you get it sorted out, and I agree that you should make an appointment with the headmaster as soon as possible.

They were doing this at the school my friends children go to a few weeks ago, the school are going for the "Health Promoting School" award. They got lots of complaints from parents.

Eve's school have adopted the new, healthy eating menu.
In theory, fantastic, but I'd just managed to talk her into hot dinners and they've changed the names of everything!

Even though I've tried to pass goulash off as stew she still won't fall for it so we're back to pack lunches of pasta (no sauce etc) or rice (again, no garnishes!)-she's not too keen on sandwiches - except dry french bread :confused3

:rotfl:

Arrhh ;)

i agree with deedee, im a governor at our loval school and i did a lunchtime visit a while ago.....i was appalled at what some of the childrens lunchboxes contained ( fizzy pop and chocolate and thats all !!) there were a few children that had all junk food :confused3

i do agree tho that this head seems to have gone way past the line of acceptable behaviour in this case tho !

thanks for all your replies - i have penned a letter to the head and will arrange an appointment to personally deliver it to him. The best thing is, is that i am a trained cook who up until 18months ago ran the restaurant and centre at our church, does he really think that I would feed my children rubbish - especially with an older son who is a potential olympic swimmer!! I have included in the letter the recipe for some of the muffins and oatmeal cookies that DS has in his lunch so that he can see they contain no sugar etc... and offered to help the school cook make some for the children to try - lets see if he takes me up on it,

Good on you! Let's hope he has the sense to take you up on your generous offer.

what happened snookhams, love to hear how the head responded to your letter !!

not heard a 'bean' from the Head as yet! will let you know what reply I get if I get one!!!

Maybe he's chewing it over? Sorry couldn't resist :teeth:

Just read your original message because I haven't been around for a while.

Almost exactly the same thing happened to my youngest DD last year when she was in year 2 - she was 6 years old.

Her dinner lady took it upon herself to make the children line up and put their hand up if they had chocolate in their lunch boxes. If they did she would not let them eat it! I had put a treat size pack of Buttons in Ems lunch box and when she came home she told me she wasn't allowed to eat them. I let it go the first couple of times, but on the third time I complained to her teacher who agreed with me that the dinner lady was going over the top.

To cut a long story short I went to the headmistress who said the school had adopted a 'healthy eating' policy and discouraged children from having unhealthy snacks in their boxes! She asked me what we do at the playgroup where I work and I told her we encourage healthy eating but would not stop children eating what they had been given. She had no reply for this and would not let me speak to the dinner lady involved.

Interestingly other children in Ems class were allowed to have chocolate. They were the kids whose mums never go into school, attend parent evenings or appear to show much of an interest in their education. I feel it should be one rule for all, regardless of background so the children all feel equal.
