Michelle, you are doing the right thing for your DSD. Try to be there for her, it sounds like you are a great Stepmom, so keep up the great work! I would snap at the Mom as well! Give your DSD a hug and keep talking to her!

When my DD is upset about something, I try to get her listen to me, you know yourself, alot of times the kids today do not want to hear what we have to say! I have taken a nice approach with my DD. I will tell her something like this:

Lauren hun, I would like to talk with you! I will then tell her, Please just let me talk and listen to what I have to say! I am only being a Mom and it is important to me that you at least listen to what I have to say, this way I know that I have at least told you! Let me do my job and be a Mom. It has worked! She is now more open minded and will come back to me with different things.

I am sure your DSD welcomes any advice and help/support that you offer!

She is a beautiful girl. I can't imagine being proud enough of my daughter looking that way and the apparent way she is inside. She is very lucky to have you.

She is a great girl...she is on the left, and my DD is on the right....they are a hoot!! We had a great time....

I'm sorry to hear her mom is such a dork. My sister has a niece that has a mom like that. She's made the choice to have very little to do with her mother. Maybe it's time for your dsd to do the same.

This is coming from someone who has never been thin. I also wasn't obese. Then I got put on some meds, and gained about 40 pounds in a two month period. I wouldn't think it was possible that a few little pills could change someone's eating habits that much, but I would have breaded and deep fried a bag of sugar if my wife let me. When the Dr. put morbidly obese on my chart it was a bit of an eye opener after I got past the denial part "He must be thinking of that fat guy in the waiting room. I wonder who I should talk to about getting my Twinkies unstuck from the vending machine"

As much as this woman is coming across as the antichrist, I don't think she is saying these things to be hateful. She cares about this girl and wants her to take better care of herself, but just isn't as good as saying it to her as you are when you offer to pay for half of her stuff to work out. She at least had the sense that she wasn't good parent material and left the job to someone that was. Some people don't do that, and mess kids up full time, instead of just in small doses.

Exactly my point. I dont disagree with talking to her about it. I agree that DSD has issues to get thru to be successful in weight loss. I have talked to her about it. I feel you have to get to the root of what is going on. You won't be successful in losing it, and maintaining will not work until you do.

I am disagreeing with how she bashes her about it. Do you have to be so hurtful? so sad...
