I should not have so much physical stuff going on I learned that I am low on vitamin D on top of having fibermialgea thinking of informing disney but I don't want to be wheel chaired bound the entire trip but I can't handle stairs I am at walking and it feels that my family is not supporting me

I wouldn't worry too much about the Vitamin D thing unless you dr felt it was a huge deal. It seems the trendy thing right now. Everyone is being checked, everyone is being found to be low and are being treated by just taking more Vit. D-- either by prescription or over the counter, whichever your dr recommends. I am going to mention it to my dr when I go for a recheck of something else in month or so and get mine checked.

If you can't do stairs then by all means let Disney know that you are not able to climb stairs and they will be able to help you out. You won't be wheelchair bound. They recommend a wheelchair if you are unable to stand or walk for long periods of time, but if all you need is to avoid stairs it shouldn't be an issue. Take a look at the disABILITIES board for more information and advice about that.

But do listen to your body and rest when you need to. Get a drink and sit in a cool spot and watch the people go by-- that can be more fun than any of the rides and shows!

As for your family well,. Many go through that. Maybe you can get your doctor to help you out by talking to them about what your needs are and how difficult things are?

So sorry you are going through this. Do whatever you have to do to make your trip enjoyable for you, even if it means using a wheelchair or scooter. Don't try to be a superhero and land yourself in the hospital. I am sorry your family isn't supportive. (((hugs)))

I'm 34 and I also have auto-immune issues. I am undiagnosed at this point but I am on pain meds. I also found out recently that I have heart issues and will likely have to have open heart surgery soon. Before all of this came to light, I pushed myself really hard on a trip to vegas last December with my DH. I felt so awful, there are no words for the amount of pain and fatigue I felt. I should have taken care of myself first, regardless of how it looked to others.

Do you think that if you took your family with you to your doctor that s/he could help them understand? Maybe something like this could help (letter on chronic pain):

I also want to recommend this website: http://www.butyoudontlooksick.com/ Lots of people on there going through the same thing. You might print out the "Spoon Theory" story and ask your family to read it to see if it helps them to understand things a little better.

Sometimes the people we need the most to understand are the ones who understand the least, just kinda the way it goes with being young and with chronic illness. Build yourself a nice support network of friends, go to Disney and enjoy yourself!

I am sorry that your family is not being understanding. We rented a wheelchair for my daughter-in-law at the Animal Kingdom because the park is so huge and she just couldn't tolerate another day of so much walking. She has many ailments and we, as a family, support her in any way we can. We let her take the lead on how she is feeling on any given day - it's not our call.

I hope you're feeling better by the time your trip comes up. (Honeymoon?)

I have had Fibromyalgia for over 10 years and I walk Disney every single time. My vitamin D is low, but I would guestimate a very high percentage of people on the Dis are low also. Even my always healthy husband is low.

Ask your doctor what dose of Vitamin D he would like you to take. Some start off with a very high prescription dose then graduate to OTC dose. As Scraps said, this is EXTREMELY common.

Fibro comes in flairs. If you are newly diagnosed I would recommend speaking with your physician and start with some physical therapy and figuring our your trigger points and what works for you and what doesn't.

Stairs are hard, but with practice become just a slower process than actual walking.

I really want to end with while I have gone for 10 years to Disney and walked there is not harm in renting a ECV or a wheelchair. It can be controlled, you have to have a positive attitude though.

Yes it is a honeymoon I was looking forward to until recently just don't know how to explain to my mom Disney wants to help not hurt me by telling them I don't do stairs

Disney is very handicap accessible. I can only think of a few area's that are stairs only without a ramp. Go to Disney's website and look up the area for Disabilities and have your mother read there.

I guess I don't totally understand, you don't have to do anything you don't want to at Disney so your Mom thinking Disney will "hurt" you is a bit off. Please if you are worried, have her do the research and read up on it. I am sure she will be amazed at how much they have to offer versus not helping you.

Are you planning the wedding at Disney and is that why your Mom is giving you a hard time? Does she feel left out on the planning? Maybe involving her will help everyone.

I just read honeymoon, tell your Mom you will be just fine. Any place you would have gone for a honeymoon would include stairs.

One of the easiest way to get more vitamin D is to spend more time in the sun. I believe about 5-10 minutes a day. The body needs sunlight to produce it.

You just need to do, what you need to do. You cannot worry about what your family thinks, or how they support or don't support you. You have to do what is best for you.

:hug::hug::hug::hug:

well good news all around I am getting better everyday on top of getting my moms support
