One could only hope. If I toke up in ym living room, how is it affecting anyone, except me? These "crimes" are VICTIMLESS. It's legislating behavior, and it just costs more money to enforce than it's worth.

I agree with you. I also am ambivalent on the issue of gay marriage. I simply think gays are approaching the argument in the wrong way. It's not a discrimination or a rights issue. It's a legal issue.

The ninth amendment:

The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.

What does this mean? Well, it means that the bill of rights lists some of the rights that the founders felt were particuarly important; free speech, freedom of religion, freedom to assemble, freedom of association, to bear arms, to be free of unreasonable searches and seizures, etc... But, they felt like poeple would think they were GIVING them rights by listing them, so they added number 9. It means that just because they listed SOME of our rights, it does not mean we do not have other rights. It means that we do in fact have a right to privacy and to be gay and to smoke pot and to dye our hair red if that is what pleases us. Unfortuneatly, we are having our rights stripped away one by one, for our own good of course.

It was, until everyone willy nilly started proposing constitutional amendments. I don't know if the gay community percipitated this move, but it has gotten out of hand. To be sure, the gay community's extremists do not help their cause. I mean the people that have the pride parades, running naked through San Francisco in the name of "pride" (I'm gonna get flamed wicked bad for that one)

I'm just sayin', it does nothing to further their cause. In fact, it confirms in many people's minds that "they" are just freaks. I understand that the majority of gay people are not like that, but I think people may feel that they are "representative"

These aren't discriminatory pracitices. Gays can marry anyone of the opposite sex, just as heteros can. Nobody asks sexual orientation when applying for a marriage license. That some hold certain beliefs -- even beliefs that homosexuality is a sin based on theology-- doesn't automatically make them bigoted.

I was in my sister's commitment ceremony. I supported both of them completely. We socialized regularly with both my sister (now deceased) and her partner. I am definitely not a bigot-- though I'm certain one or more of you will show your intolerance amd accuse me of being one!

I don't know how anyone could flame you for that--nothing flameworthy there.

I guess what I don't understand or I misunderstood--I didn't think any of the voting was for "gay marriage" in the traditional sense of the word (religious ceremony), I thought it was strictly about a legal union? Did I miss something?

My marriage was done to affirm my commitment to my husband and to legalize my union. Now I am legally protected in ways that a homosexual couple cannot hope to achieve even if they go to a lawyer and make arrangements.

Would it upset you after your death if your spouse was not allowed to keep your home or your children (if you have any)?

Tonyswife - couldn't agree more with what you said about Gay Pride parades. I am friends with several Gay couples and they get really angry whenever they see the parades on the news. They think it just sets into the publics mine more that they are promiscous with sex, that they are all about being out in the open about sex, and that they would damage children because of that.
