Bottom Round roast $6.00
Cream of Mushroom Soup $1.00
Potatoes, $1.00
Carrots, $1.00
Drano, $7.00

Plumber, $60!

I clogged up the disposal with carrot peels. I guess I should spell that CARAT peels!;)

Wow, did you show you his crack for that price??:rotfl:

No, he is a really nice guy and is so reasonable. The clog was in the pipes, the elbow (trap) was cracked, I knew that which is why I didn't attempt to repair it myself and he had to go home to get a part to fix it. He joked about my very expensive bag of carrots. ;) Most plumbers in our area charge $75 for just leaving the shop...and then the labor gets added on.

 I plug up the garbage disposal all the time, but my husband just takes it apart & cleans it out. He's always threatening to disable it on me, though.

The worst thing that ever made it down the disposal, was a soda can. :lmao:

Ours had been acting up since Thankgiving. Finally my husband checked it out the other day and I watched him take a pair of tongs and pull out a plastic bag. He said it was probably from the turkey. Oops.:lmao:

I couldn't wait until DH got home. The sink wouldn't drain, I couldn't run the dishwasher and I am about to disable the thing myself. Note to self: no potato peels, no carrot peels, no artichokes and on your suggestion, no soda cans. ;)

So the boiling water and plunger didn't work? I have another no-no for your list- corn husks/silks.

Sorry about the clog but thanks for posting because it reminded me to take the roast I'm making for this weekend out of the freezer :teeth:

The plunger, boiling water, drano following by boiling water, plunger following drano and boiling water. The only thing that worked was the plumber.

Whenever I put down potato peels or carrot peels, I throw in some ice cubes to help the blades along.

Watch out for banana peels, I have trouble with them, too.

I have clogged the disposal so many times, that when I have a sink full of stuff to send down, I usually call for DH to put it down. That way, if it clogs, it isn't my fault.

Oh reminds of a funny story....
At a diner party with 3 other couples- drinking having fun... Well time to clean up- one of the wives*the spaz of our group...was scraping and scraping everything right into the sink. and she kept turning the switch on and off-saying man this thing isn't working... then as she turned the switch again I saw a light go on outside!! It wasn't a disposal it was a light switch. SHE DIDN"T HAVE A DISPOSAL!!! Oh good thing we were all drunk- we thought that was hilarious!:rotfl2:

I clogged mine about a month ago with potato peels. I had to take it apart and fix it. I had people coming for dinner. I didnt have time to wait for a plumber! I started taking things apart. Dh stood behind me watching and empting the buckets of water. He was gagging the whole time.

At one point I said "I bet your are glad you dont have a prim and proper wife!". He said "if I did, I would have called the plumber a long time ago!".

Thankfully, I was able to fix it.

Sorry about your sink, but all I can think is MMMMMMMMMMmmmmm, Pot Roast (do we have a drool smiley).

Just bought a new Disposer, Old one crapped out after 12 years. New One with Advanced Technology will handle Carrots and Potato Peels. Disposers generally have a small drainage holes that surround the unit, much smaller than the 1 1/2 pipe that attachs to the drain. So I would not disengage it, You will have a clog everyday. When mine stopped working even coffee grinds would almost clog it. New unit is much quieter also, can hold a conversation when it is on.

Jimmy (the plumber) said that the new disposals are great. They don't just grind, they emulsify, like a blender.

I have an old disposal, and I don't put anything clog worthy down it - no peelings, no bread, no pasta...

Dawn, sit another setting, I'm a meat and pot. gal.. on my way over! :thumbsup2

My DH said to use a can of carrots next time. :rotfl2:
