I am going to die

After going to Six Flags over Texas a couple of times....Disney World is SO clean compared.
At Sixflags: I just walk around and look at the water.., eating places, :( ,
and God forbid you have to go to the bathroom. :crazy2:

I will say I take off the comforter on the beds. I bring Lysol wipes and wipe everything down. Put a washrag under my toothbrushes and toiletries.
To my mothers dismay I walk around the hotel room with no shoes on. :hyper:

WOW!! This is real scary!

One of the girls that work with me, was a flight attendant and she told me to never use the airplane sheets, they are not washed regularly and the things people do under them are amazing :scared1: . What the airline do is that they fold them up and put them in their place again.

Hey!! At least our immune system is updated regularly :rotfl:

OH MY GOD....i had no idea ...i am walkin on the wild side!!! ::yes:: cause boy i do all those things too....i am crazier than i ever thought...i better join this chain too cause i sure do get in those bath tubs and i even put my kids in it.. :scared1: ...my kids swim in the pools for hours at a time...oh my....i think we all better head down to disney so we can get together and plan for one big CROAKING!!!

I'm with every one on this one. :sad2: I also eat fast food, Sometimes drive without a seat belt. :sad2: Sometimes I even drive without a seatbelt while eating fast food. :scared1:

I just hope that wherever I go in the afterlife there is a DW to enjoy. :goodvibes

Hope everyone lives a long life and good luck. :earsboy:

OMG- Do you touch elevator buttons too?? LOL we are an obscessed culture aren't we. My friend used to only sleep with the bed covers until I told her that they don't always wash them. Her face was priceless.

Man, I am in for it! Not only do I walk around barefoot and use the pools and bathtubs, but we go..... GASP.... camping every year. Like, out in NATURE. With DIRT and stuff. With a tent, a communal bathroom (when it's not wilderness camping and a hole in the ground) and, when I do get a shower, it's in a place shared by every hiker and camper passing through.

I've had bone cancer twice and my daughter almost died at 8 months old. Guess it's those every-day germs we need to worry about. NOT! Give me some good old-fashioned naturally-developed immunity instead of covering ourselves with Lysol and doing our best to create treatment-resistant germs for all to share. :sunny:

Hi there - I can add one too. I give our kids fruit snacks while standing in line or as a snack - AFTER holding hand rails, sitting in the evil rental stroller and possibly playing with the bottom of their sneakers (after using the public toilet which we sat on)! I have the Purell in my purse, but we usually forget until half way through the fruit snacks! :scared1:

How many years do you think I've taken off our lives???

At least we've gotton to Disney at least Once more before we go into a germ comma! :jumping1:

Not only did I survive all of the above (and will hopefully continue to do so) without any special preparations, I also survived a childhood without a car seat and I didn't have a crib with specially spaced bars (I didn't get my head stuck in them, but my brother DID get his head stuck in my mom's big spaghetti pot and they had to call the fire department to get him out :rotfl: ). I don't keep Lysol in the house, although I do carry hand sanitizer with me all the time (I have sensitive skin and I'm allergic to a lot of hand soap). I have never disinfected anything in a hotel or other public place, and I have traveled around the country on business for many years.

At my age, if I start getting sick from traveling, at least I'll have something interesting to talk about!

Beth

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Me too but I don't travel much - although I DID start bring the Lysol but it's mostly a "quick spray" around the room when we first enter and that's it (probably doesn't do a whole lot of good but makes me at least feel better!).

Other than that....I figure if the outsider germs don't kill me, the germs my kids like to share with me will! ;)

Complete and total "couldn't care less about germs" devotee here - walking barefoot across the carpet? Sleeping under sperm-encrusted bedspreads? Bring it on, baby!!!!!

But put that seatbelt on and buckle that baby in a carseat - I'm not scared of a germ at Disney World, but I wouldn't take the same chances in a car!!!!!

MinnieM3,
Congratulations on your successful battle! Puts things like everyday germs into perspective, doesn't it?

Enjoy yourself in Disney---the happiest place on earth!

Thank you Buckeye! Just can't worry about it all!

I have traveled quite a lot myself including overseas. On our honeymoon my dh and I went to St. Kitts in West Indies. We DID come away with more than we bargained for with scabies!!!! This is a wonderful little mite that causes a ton of itching (just after it burrows under your skin and lays eggs!). Well, my dh was driven CRAZY by the itching so he went to the dermatologist and was diagnosed. By the time he went though, I was infected with them. We remember a housekeeper (who was very nice by the way) who was scratching her arms like crazy when she was remaking our bed (we came back to room early from a tour)...we figure that it was she that sent the little buggies to us by her contact with our sheets (entirely possible with scabies...that is how they spread...children get them from playing in dirty and unknown "poopy" dirt as well). I have to say that as newlyweds, the cure was not so bad...we had to rub each other with a prescription lotion ALL over our bodies!! :cool1:

Since then, we have been a little more cautious and aware of our bedding. Now that we have a dd3 I tend to be more dilligent about checking our bedding BEFORE use. Only thing I will say about that is that you cannot always see what is there.

Moral of the Story: Be informed, take caution, but don't bother overdoing it as there are more things you can't see and can't fight against than those obvious (like stains). Don't bother using the top comforter...EVERYONE knows by now that they are yucky!!! In comparison, in the US we have great cleanliness standards! :flower3: I don't know about anyone else, I am NOT going on vacation to clean the resorts room, I am going to get away from all of that. If there is a problem, inform the hotel and have them handle it. :scratchin

Have fun everyone! :jumping1:

As you can see by my tag, you've given me some new ideas of things to avoid! My DH is just the opposite and is always telling me to "have faith in your immune system." :rotfl:

We swim in the pools, walk barefoot in the room, bathe/shower without disinfecting, and even sit in the hot tubs for a nice soak. We will also sit on the comforter, but always fold it back for sleeping (never went so far as removing it completely). Judging by the posts around here though, I believe I may change my habits. Since practically EVERYONE takes the offensive comforter off, I'm thinking the thing is probaby cleaner than I thought!

:rotfl: Add our family to the short list too. Last "hotel" we were at (I use that term loosely;)) DS's feet were black on the bottoms from that nasty carpet- I've never had that problem at a Disney hotel, value or deluxe. :) I keep some hand sanitizer in my bag for when we can't get to a sink right away, but I've made it 28 years with out catching anything too bad, I'll take my chance. I must say I do the "hover pee" can't sit on public toilets- that's my mom's influence.

O.k., folks. The World is a dirty place, and human beings have lots of gross body fluids. That's a fact. I walk around with my socks in the hotel room, and so do my children. We lay on the beds, play on the floor, etc. And we manage to survive.

Not to be a downer or anything, but I keep thinking of that poor little girl who was found dead in Florida. Her Father was just on T.V. crying. I can only imagine what he is going through. His last comment was to love your children. Well, that's what I'm going to do. I'm not going to worry about what filth is in the hotel room, when there is much worse filth in the form of human beings. :sad2:
Sorry to bring every one down, but that story of the little girl has hit me hard. I imagine she would have loved a trip to WDW. :(

AMEN!! I'm sure you all remember Polly Klass? kidnapped from her bedroom, just like this little angel. Polly Klass lived in the same town as I
work!! Some things in life we will just never understand.......

I have even survived a trip to Las Vegas...SIN CITY!! :rotfl2:

I also work in a MAJOR retail store and use the same bathrooms everyone else does because they don't provide us with our own in the back. I gave up trying to get the little paper thing to be just right on the seat and now just sit down and do my business. :rolleyes2

Guess I'll be going on my last vacation after I get all these germs at WDW.

Brenda ;)

I'll be at the funeral home with you LOL!

I travel every week do NONE of the things I read about on these boards and am in perfect health..... LOL!

Well the airlines are solving that problem.... they are removing the pillows and blankets. (However, if you are lucky enough to fly first or business overseas you get nice clean pillows/blankets)
