I am disappointed with so many changes at Hollywood Studios

I miss the Animation Academy(drawing class) more than anything that has "retired" from WDW. It had developed a real following, not sure why they did not move it elsewhere.
People will claim you can do the same thing at Art of Animation but it isn't the small. I want my desk and backlit paper

And the Animation Academy
Once SWLand opens, the current Launch Bay facility won't be needed there, so why not utilize the building for an updated version of Animation Academy? I envision a write-in campaign. Bring back Animation Academy, bring back Animation Academy, bring back Animation Academy!

This years trip will be the first for my 6 year old. Today she tells me about which characters she plans to learn how to draw first. Apparently I mentioned in passing something I read about the drawing classes and she added it to her list of things she's excited about. I had to retrace steps and get my details straight. Sounds like the Animation Academy would have been awesome for her but I hope she will still like the offering at AOA.

It's become a half-day park for me, which is OK with an AP. Really too bad that the Osborne Lights are gone. The Great Movie Ride is my favorite attraction there and I hope they will end up keeping it, after all. I've asked CMs who work there and one said it will remain and another said it may stay or it may go.

What recent things have been taken away that you don't like? So many people seem to say "half the park is closed", etc... I just don't quite see it that way. Streets of America are gone. How many people really went back there? Honey I Shrunk the Kids? That was a ghost town. Backlot Tour has been gone for a while, and was an empty ride before it closed anyway. Lights Motors Action was cool, and I'm sad that's gone, so I agree there. Great Movie Ride is still there, I don't think there's any solid plans announced for it yet?? So really, I don't see it having had any bad changes recently (except Lights/Motors/Action), and think the new things they're creating are going to be awesome! I'm not a Star Wars junkie, but I'm still looking forward to whatever they do. Heck, I've never seen Avatar, but am looking forward to seeing the new attractions at AK.

I agree. I am one who loved to walk through the Streets, but most times I was the only one back there. Even when I would wander through during the Holiday Season to get a good look at the window fronts there was no one back there. Even my family would ditch me and go shopping.

LMA was a fun attraction, but how many times do you want to sit through it. I t took a lot of room, but was not an attraction that drew families back again and again and again.

HISTHK? Again, I am not sure that this attraction was choc full daily.

I think that there is still plenty to do in DHS, and while I understand the nostalgia we all have for attractions that are either gone, or rumored to be replaced, I cannot help but believe that DHS needed updates badly. It is the park that many insist is a 1/2 day park, and with the cost of park tix, tis needed to change.

Thanks! Updated my post to say the Frozen Sing-a-long. :)

I love this attraction!!! The storytellers have a following with those guests going again and again. I must say that the videos we showed my DH of my little Princess belting out the songs were a treat for him. He told me those alone were worth the price of the entire trip.

And if I told you what the methodology is, and yes there is one, but I won't, you'd raise an eyebrow and say, really.

Now you did it!!!! I am intrigued! LOL

Exactly. The areas that are closed are mostly areas that were barely used. Who wandered around Streets that much? Other than to look at Mr. Gold's Pawn Shop window I know we didn't. The vast majority of HS is there and when the construction is done, well have a lot more than was removed.

And really, folks need to stop worrying about rumored things and concentrate on confirmed things. Great Movie rides demise is a rumor, not a fact. Worry if it becomes fact, until them, what a waste of worrying

DDs and I would wander, pick out our 'house' that we'd want to live in, etc. Sit on a stoop and look at the details. Pose with the umbrella. We could spend at least a half hour in the streets.

You're right -- The Chinese Theater blends in! Nothing stands out. There is nothing for people to take pictures of or in front of that says, we visited Hollywood Studios!! Epcot has the ball, MK the castle, AK the tree. Something is missing from HW -- not necessarily the hat -- but something!

The theater is the backdrop, but it is a low one - you have to angle the photo to get it in. It looks great when done correctly, but it's hard. And sometimes we do the beginning of the street and get everything in there.

.

I get it. I always liked the time I spent back there, but that is some pretty expensive real estate that was underutilized for a theme park.

I'm glad your family likes it.

When I went, the storytellers were making lame jokes and no one seemed to be getting into it. I thought it would have been so much cuter with Olaf telling the story (either an anima-tronic thingy or something along the lines of Laugh Floor interaction. I loved the movie and the songs but I certainly didn't find it theme-park "worthy" to sit and watch clips of it :( I just was totally disappointed in what they put in that huge theater. I can't imagine that any of my children would have enjoyed it much when they were younger, either. It just wasn't "wow!" in the least, imo.

I honestly wish I could have gotten back my time waiting and watching it and moved on to something else.

Patience, grasshopper, patience!

It's funny, DH and I were talking about this just the other night. I said how sad the kids will be that the Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground is gone. They absolutely LOVED that place. And while DH really did enjoy HS (he's a huge Star Wars fan so enjoyed Star Tours, watching the kids in JTA etc... and is really looking forward to seeing SWL), he did say they really needed to do something with it. So much of it (we went summer 2015) was just empty, wasted space. He said it felt like a lot of walking around, for not really all that much to see/do. I'm really hoping that when we go back (June or August 2018) that TSL has opened up.

Then... why mention it?

I neither know nor care what this "methodology" is but I haven't seen a response like this since kindergarten.

As long as they don't get rid of Streets of America, LMA, Narnia, or the Osborne lights...I'm a happy camper :o

and the Walter Cronkite Robin Williams movie :)

We honestly went a few time this year and still love it. There were a lot of "actors" out this trip too - on both streets. I think that is so cool. And I like the shows. My 7yr old loved Beast, Mermaid, and being a Jedi. We all love the nostalgia of Indiana. We ride Star Tours as much as possible if there is no line. We did the Dessert party and it was fabulous. I hugged Chewie!! The little 3yr old next to me at Muppets when Fozzie was using his flower "Mommy, why is he peeing on me?" :rotfl:

We did RRC and TSM multiple times as well. My 7yr old did single rider for RRC. She loves it that much. We were on in 15 minutes. We did Great Movie Ride as well. Skipped Fantasmic this time.

You could spend a whole day there as a newbie. A lot less walking that is for sure.

The best part? Going in on Express bus and hitting up RRC and ToT and then heading out on the next express bus. It is great as a park hopper option.

I guess when MGM/HS was started up, it was meant to mimic Universal in CA, at least how it used to be, more of a "make you feel like you are behind the scenes" type of place, and also to Universal FL (I assume they had heard of Universal's plans to open in FL as didn't they just barely beat them out opening up?) I also agree with previous posters that the success of Harry Potter land helped them decide to go this direction with their movie studio park. Has Universal CA also changed a lot in the decades since I was there? Maybe my recollections are faulty or selective now, but it seemed like a laid back behind the scenes type place to me back then. I guess all the parks evolve over time, and hopefully overall the changes will be a positive.

:wave2: Dropping in to remind everyone to please follow the DIS guidelines when posting in a friendly manner.

Because this thread contains many references to Attractions that no longer exist in DHS, moving to TP Community where the discussion will continue.

Thanks!

We still enjoy it. My (almost) 5 year old thinks tower of terror is just about the coolest thing ever (even if she calls it terror of tower). GMR is one of my favorites (I'm a movie buff) , and breakfast with doc mcstuffins is a huge draw for both girls (the almost 5, and the 2.5)

Edit: Oh, and I think Fantasmic! is the best show in any of the parks, so there's that too.
