We're buying a new house soon. As happy as I am about that, it sort of squicks me out to think of sitting in the bathtub of our new place. I can't imagine all of the germs I'll be soaking in, especially if it has the requisite "jetted tub".

Am I the only one who's ever thought of this? Ok, thanks. I'll just show myself to the Weirdo Room.

Admitting you have a problem is the first step to recovery. :lmao:

No, I clean it before we use it and go on from there without a qualm.

I have a friend who freaks about germs--she can't stand it when I lick an envelope. ;) So, of course, I used to loudly announce it when I was doing it. She doesn't work with me anymore so now I email her to tell her.

I went out and purchased new toilet seats the day we moved into our house. That grosses me out more than the tub! I did however steam clean and then bleach the tub before anyone was aloud to take a shower. Cleaned all the door handles, light switches......I guess I'm a little compulsive too!:rolleyes1

No you are not weird. Unless the previous owner is really clean, those jets may be somewhat dirty.

Have you had a jetted tub before?

Well easy one to fix. I frequently fill up my jetted tub with COLD water and bleach, run it and it is all good & sanitized.:thumbsup2

Basically it is 1 tsp bleach per gallon water, so do the math on your tub.

Do not use hot water as it kills of the sanitizing effect.

We always get new toilet seats.

That's why we built a house.

No, I've been mostly an apartment dweller. I'm moving on up, to the East Si-i-i-de.

I didn't want to add directions unless you hadn't had a jetted tub before. I've used this method to carefully clean the jets of a couple of tubs after we've moved in. It has worked well. Once you're done I've found a quick swish with scrubbing bubbles leaves the tub portion clean and shiny. Congrats on moving on up!!
(Cute kids, by the way-what a sweet photo!!)

Be careful with the bleach. Some tub finishes can be permanently marred by it. I don't use it in tubs, even diluted. I tend to just use very, very warm water, and pinesol or a few drops of dish detergent. Don't want a bunch of suds, so don't use too much detergent. Be sure to completely fill the tub-water should cover the jets and intake. Run the tub 15 or 20 minutes, let the water settle...See how the water looks, drain, repeat till the water is clean. If you clean the tub (by filling completely and running the the jets) once a month or so, it stays so much nicer.

We must be related!

We are hoping to move soon and the first thing I thought of was all the things I would need to sanitize/clean before moving in a new house!:rolleyes1

Congrats on the new house!! :thumbsup2

We just bought a house, and when we moved in, we had to replace the toilet seats, scrub and bleach the bathtubs, and scrub the kitchen cabinets down then put in new shelf liners. (We scrubbed the whole kitchen down, really.)
We also had all of the carpets professionally cleaned and the ducts cleaned as well before we moved in...:lmao:
So no, I don't consider you weird. At all. :rotfl:

Oh, and OP I love the pic in your signature!! Such cuties!

There is a product out there called Odo-Ban. You can get it at Sams Club. It's very strong, and industrial strength.

I want to warn you about bleach. If you use too much bleach, the bleach actually forms a coating, and the germs will remain -- under the bleach film!! Yes, I know it sounds crazy, but that's what the Health Department explained to me one day while going over an inspection of my factory. They reccomend alternating cleaning products, bleach, and then another cleaner. Something like Zep, or the Odo-Ban I mentioned.

Just a little FYI.

Oh, and when I bought my house, the previous owner was someone I knew and was close to. I had shared a toilet with him before, so it wasn't too big of a deal for me.

I'm at the opposite end of all this. I have my house for sale and after each showing feel the need to clean my toilet seats. I'm sure no one use's them but you never know. We did have a showing where someone must have brought a child with them because we have windows that are fairly low and when I came home after the showing some one with a cold(if you know what I mean) must have leaned up against the window and left a very large icky spot:rotfl: . BTW, I was told to use dishwasher tablets on a jetted tub to clean to jet's. Just fill the tub with hot water and run the jets for 30 minute's. Susan
