I-95 bridge question

I am terrified of bridges, but I have to go over one to get to Disney. Is the Warren Fuller bridge that is on I-95 in Jacksonville very high??? I am a little stressed!!!! Thanks for any info!!1

GOOD It's shorter if I go 95 but I can go 75 and not get the big bridge. I would rather go 95 because I am familiar with it up to St. Simons at least.

WE always take the 295 Jacksonville bypass--avoids the I-95 mess altogether.

I agree with paras4ri - the bridge is not terribly high or very long.

One good thing about that bridge is that there is not a very pronounced 'edge' that you would be peering over as you are driving. The guardrails/concrete appear (I said appear) to be higher than most bridges, as it makes it difficult for our girls (riding in the back) to see over, when looking for boats. I know that for alot of people, a bridge fear is sort of an 'edge' fear as well.

I hate that bridge, we have to go over it everytime to go to Daytona Beach or at least that is the way my hubby drives..

The Buchman Bridge is the one over the St John's River on I-295, which is the way to avoid dealing with downtown Jacksonville. It is 3 miles long but it's not high, actually, it's pretty low to the river except one hump. There are 4 lanes on that bridge so you could just drive down the middle lane. The Fuller-Warren has been rebuilt, and 3-4 lanes now too, and is higher but shorter in length than the Buchman. http://local.live.com/default.aspx?cp=30.315|-81.67166667&style=h&lvl=15&v=1

If you are that afraid of bridges, I'd go with the Fuller-Warren as it's much shorter, not but maybe 1/4 -1/2 mile long if that. Probably much shorter. It is higher though and you drive thru downtown, which puts you at risk for traffic.

Are there tolls to either of those bridges? If there are, I know that many bridges offer a transit employee to drive you across...you are not alone. There are many people that will not drive over bridges at all. Good luck!

I think the Dames Point is the one you will want to avoid.

I am not afraid of bridges.. The Jacksonville Bridge is one of the best to go over... I do not remember it being that long, and if I am not mistaken, not too high.. high enough for a typical bridge... I guess, coming from NJ, the bridge situation doesn't bother me since I have to cross several.....

Thanks for all the responses! My husband does not drive interstate, so I am stuck with the driving (which I actually like). I like being in control of the car except for bridges. I don't know why. I guess I am afraid that I am going to drive off of it. I just get weak when we go over them.

Going down 95, you'll also have to cross another bridge over the St John's river just south of Daytona, before Sanford in the Deland area.

None of these bridges are toll.

Going straight thru downtown would be your best bet in this case I suppose. Just drive in the middle lane, you'll be fine.

I still think the horrible traffic on I-95 offsets any bridge height/length comparisons--. The 295 Bridge is very low.
That Jacksonville "come to almost a complete stop, left hand turn" to stay on I-95 is the main reason we always use 295.

I think that my plans have now changed! I will be leaving from Macon so now I will just take I-75, Florida Turnpike, then I-4! I have checked the bridge issue here....there are very few. I didn't realize there are LOTS of bridges down I-95. Yikes! I need to get over my fear of bridges or I won't be able to go anywhere!!! Thanks for all the wonderful information.
