I-81 From PA to NC.... anything worth making a stop for?

Have you been to Virginia Safari Park? It is a drive through safari park. We had a lot of fun with the zebras. It is located at the same exit as Natural Bridge. I would think that your kids would really like it. It can get messy though. We had an ostrich that spit the food all over us and our van. We had kibble everywhere! ...but it was a lot of fun.

....

Natural Bridge is quite pretty.

Guess my mindset is to expose the kids to all the nature. My dad did a lot of this with my sister and I when we were small and we loved it. I'm a cave junkie because of all the visits to various famous caves/caverns.

That is what we do... I think we will make sure we stop this year. Last year it was pouring rain so we didn't.

Sounds like a good plan! Thanks! :thumbsup2

I-81 is a beautiful drive. I'd definitely be taking that as opposed to I-95. I don't know of any place to stop along the way. Then again, my route would be along a route of Geocaches! :teeth: :teeth:

Have fun on your trip!

I assume you're taking I-81 south to I-77 south which runs smack into the heart of Charlotte. 77/81 is ALWAYS how we go to to NY and to FL form NC. You couldn't PAY me to take 85 or 95 anywhere again after I discovered the faster "back" way.

1. 81 may have fewer rest stops but it has a heckuva lot more EXITS with gas, food, lodging and bathroom. Parts of both 85 and 95 have the dreaded "next exit: 31 miles".

2. I live about 10 miles off of I-77! You can always stop and visit hehehe! I'll let you guys ride my horses.....Charlotte is 45 minutes south of me.

Seriously though, I'm not entirely sure that there is something along the way worth stopping for a whole day.

Monticello (Thomas Jefferson's home) is around that area I think. I do not know why, but I love Monticello. And I remember my boys enjoying it around that age. The tour of the mansion is short - they liked running around the grounds and some of the quarters and basements, kitchens. They enjoyed the history of it as well.

Doesn't that road go along the Blue Ridge Mountains national park? Either way I hear it's a beautiful ride.

Yep, right to Carmel Rd.... :thumbsup2

This really is a far better way to go than 95. Only concern can be the trucks in the mountains. Ya can get stuck behind them when they can't keep the speed limit... Still, we saved over an hour of driving, and the ride was BEAUTIFUL for much of the time.
