We stayed in Macon a few times. Lots of choices for hotels. I find on 1-75 as long as you stick with a hotel chain (holiday inn, Fairfield inn ect.) then you are fine.

I live 25 minutes north of Atlanta, so we never make an overnight stop in Ga. My advice is Macon though. You will find more hotels/restaurants in Macon.
