Hi and Thanks to everyone who answered my earlier post on I-5 south. Now I have gotten the map out and read what ideas people had for us. My question is this.....

Should we cut over to the 210 right away off of I-5 to the 57 OR

Should we wait and drive further south and cut over on the 134 to the 210 to the 57???

Im not sure how far North the traffic starts to back up:confused3

Hmmm honestly we've tried to do other ways in the past. Usually because we were going to my DH's grandmothers house (who lives about 10 minutes for DL). It's still taken about the same amount of time. A lot of tracking around different freeways, a lot of which have their own traffic too.

Yes, you can get traffic on 5 (sometimes we've had little or no traffic depending on the time we've gone through), but it's still been the easiest way to go IMO.

I agree. As a local, I'd say it's definitely better to just stay on the 5. If you cut across to the 210 and then the 57, you're just going way out of your way and taking a lot more time to get to DLR. The 5 can be bad, but so can all the other freeways. Listen to some music or enjoy some conversation, it'll pass the time.

What is it they say..."The shortest distance between two points is a straight line"? The 5 is a straight shot to DLR. Take it.

210 to the 57...you will get to 210 before you get to 134...and the 57 is where you get off at DL:goodvibes

On Friday, DH decided we would stay on 5 rather than 210/57. Right after passing the 210 interchange, the traffice came to a standstill. There was no way to even try to merge over to get onto the 134 so we stayed on 5 all the way to La Jolla. The backlogged traffic lasted until after Dodger Stadium and added close to an hour to our drive. Needless to say, on our way home we took 57/210!!! When you've already been traveling for 2+ hours, getting caught in a non-moving traffic is very tiring!!

I know what you mean, we've usually been travelling 6-7 hours when we hit that area. Still, I've never known a freeway in So. California to not have some kind of traffic. I'd hate to go through all that trouble, driving out of the way, to only hit more traffic on a different freeway (which we have done in the past). To me traffic in that area is just an expected part of the drive, that we factor in to our expected arrival time. So I still vote for staying on the 5.

If traffic is that big of a problem I suggest driving on weekends, and try to pick hours where it's going to be lighter. But again it's So. California and your bound to always hit some traffic, no matter what time, day, or freeway you go! :)
