So my 2000 Venture's transmission has finally died after 210,000 km's and I am looking for a new car.

After shopping around on-line the 2010 Hyundai Elantra has caught my attention. For the price I was willing to pay for a used car, I can get a new Elantra for not much more, which will give me a full warranty.

Does anyone have any opinions on the Elantra -- good or bad?

I have a 2002 red Elantra GT. It is the hatchback model.
I have had NO issues with this car. It has been a wonderful little vehicle. Great on gas--I still drive it 40min to and back to work daily.
Only thing I have had to do is typical wear and tear stuff.
We were a bit nervous back then because Hyundai was newer to the area but it has paid off to be a good little car and it is paid for.:)
Good luck

Hyundai's are very good and I would buy without hesitation. We had an Accent with over 200K on it that we just gave away to a friend. It was a 94 and there was nothing mechanically wrong with it. It had a few wear and tear issues on the interior but really after that many years I think it's to be expected.

We just bought a 2010 Elantra sport 5 speed and a 2010 Santa Fe Sport in March. Happy with both of them so far - Elantra is nice drive and basic transportation for decent $$. Dh says definatly don't go for the base model though. A full tank of gas on the 5 speed is doing him about 650 to 700 km's - it's great that he's going a whole week on 1 tank. The Santa Fe is pretty good on the gas too - on our trip to Hilton Head we had it down as low as 8.6L/100km's in the city it's more like 10.3L/100km's or so.
All the reserach we did pushed up towards Hyundai - we were a Toyota family before this purchase but couldn't justify the cost of the Toyota's.

Thank you all for your input.

I live in a GM city so I've only ever owned a GM product, but after the research I've done and reading all the positive reviews on this board and in the Lemon Aid books I went ahead and purchased a 2010 Elantra today. :cool1:

My boys are really excited about the new car .... wait until 10 days from now when they find out we're not really just taking Grandma and Grandad to the airport for a trip to Cuba, we're actually all going to Disneyworld:banana::banana::banana:

I have an elantra, I do like it a lot. Haven't had any problems with it yet--have had it for over a year. I believe it's a 2006 maybe 04? Either way, as a kid, the only problem I have with it is cosmetic probem...no cd player!!

Now I know this isn't an "important" problem, but it is really annoying, esp since the cars not that old. I'm thinking of getting one installed soon...

other than that, love it :goodvibes

Gotta go with Satellite Radio... :)

I just bought a 2010 Elantra Touring GL last week - love it. I actually went to buy a Tucson & found this one & bought it instead. Its roomy & great on gas. Just back froma trip down to Maine & it worked great, no problems or complaints yet. Mine has all the bells & whistles too & was less than $20,000 - gotta love that
