Okay...

So today I was in Volleyball practice. We were doing this drill where we run down the gym while passing a ball to each other, Anyway about half way through it felt like my throat closed up. I was gasping for air. I tried to tough it out and keep going but I just fell on the floor grabbing my throat gasping for air. I couldn't even tell the coach what was the matter. I could barely walk I was sooooo dizzy. Someone helped me to the nurses office. She gave me a paper bag (which didn't help at all) and some water. And she told me to take slow deep breathes. Well theres no way because I couldn't get any air. Well after about 15 minutes I started to breather better. I stayed in the office. Aobt 10 or so minutes after that I went into this horrible coughing fit for that lasted almost three hours. I spent the next three hours in the nurses office being watched closely by her. They told me not to call my mom??? And then I left when the bell rang for school to end.

I have no idea what happened to me. I play sports ALLLLL the time and this has never hapened. I don't have asma or anything this is actually the first time I've ever been gasping for breather. Anyone have a clue about what happened. I'm going to the doctor tommorow...

That's strange. What interests me the most is that they didn't want to let you call your mother. When that happens, you have to worry that they are concerned about a lawsuit. I would try and find out if there have been similar issues, especially with the same coach. There's definitely some funny business going around there, in addition to the breathing problem.
Anyway, I hope you feel better!

This was in gym class, right?
In my experience, high school gym classes are running students WAY too hard. I was running stairs the other day, and I slid and fell back down several steps (these are bleachers) I was bleeding, and she expected me to get up and keep running. "oh, hell no" doesn't do my attitude to that request justice.

I also think that something is going on. Even if you couldn't talk from not being able to breathe correctly or from coughing, the nurse should have called your mother anyway. You were in danger.

Yep it's gym. And I always drink around 1 1/2 of water every practice. I don't know...

I asked the nurse "My gasp mom gasp call gasp gasp call her gasp!" And she was like "Oh dear, I don't think thats a very good idea. Perhaps you should just breathe deeper."

???

I agree that gym classes aren't taught as they should be. We have a system where Monday, Wednesday, and Friday are 'activity days.' The other days are 'fitness days.' On activity days, the class splits into three groups, based on your activity choice. They might offer volleyball, jump rope, badmitton, etc. Those are fine. Fitness days are a real issue because they are so disproportionate. On one day, we will walk the track for ten minutes, and then chat. The next fitness day could consist entirely of running. I wish they would even it out more.
Luckily, we don't have to do stairs. Instead, we do matball alot, which is still bad in itself. I got hit in the head with the ball once (kicked by one of those insane jocks whose goal is to kick as far as they can). I went up to my teacher, who was so busy chatting with her favorites that she didn't notice. I told her what had happened, and she said "So What?"
Hello! My face is red and visibly bruised! You moron! I need ice!
After a few minutes of negotiating, I was allowed to run and get ice, and then rin straight back. So crazy...

That's definately weird. They were probably trying to avoid a lawsuit or something.

these r all great advice but this might be your first asthma attack. but i dont understand that you couldn't call your mom. that was serious and she needed to be notified

feel better

My gym class is really effed up.

We get 10 minutes to change before class, and 15 to change after class. So, over half the class is devoted to changing. Then, since we're first hour, we walk to the aux gym to set up. another 10 minutes. And for the like, 10 minutes we do have of actual class time, my teacher goes out in the hall and talks on his cell.

Not that I'm saying there's anything wrong with that... :p

So are the middle schools. Such as mine, for instance.

Today, we were doing pilates in the fitness lab. Well, my hip tendons/joints were starting to hurt by the end of class. (My hip tendons/joints haven't hurt like this since my growth spurt about three years ago.) I made the mistake of asking my teacher if this was normal. She said, "Yes. They're joints, and are supposed to move like that."

If my hip joints are moving normally, then why the hell did it hurt when I was walking home? I could just about manage walking.

I've left gym class in pain. Thats not supposed to happen.

Jenny, talk to your mom, and go see a doctor. Athsma can be developed suddenly, you may have a serious problem.

There's absolutely no excuse for that. I don't care what the nurse's logic was, they should have called your mom to at least let her know what was happening. If anyone said something like that to me in that kind of situation, it would probably anger me to the point of making me worse.

I thought it was really weird that she wouldn't let me call my mom. I tried to tell her but it hurt so much to talk. Do you really think it could be asthma.. I just don't know. My mom knows about it now thought and she is upset. She said I probably should've been taken to the doctor then. She calling the school tommorw, to find out what's up.

???

Thank you...

i problly was asthma my first asthma attack was like that but not as serious.
i know that the attacks can range. your mom should problly come into school and talk to the nurse or gym teacher.

We don't have a nurse.
If I want to go home, it's simple. I ask for a phone pass, the teacher will give you no matter what (I could lie about being ill, they wouldn't care) and then tell my parents I'm going home and then I leave.

I despise Gym Class...

Oh my gosh, running around our gym ten times a day kills me. Then we have to play a "game" which is generally my time to act like I know what I'm doing and roll my eyes over and over.

At least you guys do something in gym. We just sit on the bleachers...

Yikes! Yea, every Mon., Wed., and Fri we have to run 6 minutes non stop at the beginning of the period then on Fri's we have to run for 5 min walk 30sec run for 5 min walk 30 sec. run for 5 min then walk the rest... I think that's torture if you ask me
