Hyatt Regency at Orlando Int Airpot

We are staying at the MCO Hyatt the night before our cruise in February. We got a good rate through Travelocity. I almost tried Hotwire, but I chickened out. I didn't want to take the chance on getting a different hotel than the Hyatt.

We got the $83 rate (booked in january for Nov 29). It was the special Internet rate, where you pay for one night upfront and you are charged a cancellation fee which is what I think happened to that unhappy Hyatt customer who posted a few posts up...I have a second reservation for my BIL with the AAA rate and there's no deposit and no cancellation fee.

Anyway, I've watched it go up up up! It is now at $144 unless you have AAA then it's $124 and just the other day I noticed they have a special "holiday" rate of $124 so you don't need AAA anymore.

But if you ever is a rate under $100, book it as they go up fast!

We paid for the rooms with a CC when we made the reservation. They charged us $50 for each room to cancell the reservation, yes each room, and we had called to cancell 45 days before the date of the reservation. So we will never stay there again.

The moral of the story here is that you must know any hotel's cancellation policy before you book. This is not a Hyatt problem.

We stayed there and it was easily the best decision I made when planning. Our flt. got in really late, our luggage didn't make it, the stupid virus was on the news, but the comfort of knowing that all we had to do was walk across the terminal to our hotel room was indescribable! (I think I spelled that wrong, but you know what I mean!)

A $50 cancellation fee when we gave them plenty of notice is excessive. I have stayed there many times and this policy has changed my mind about future visits. It is my fault for not seeing the cancellation fee and for needing to have surgery that they could only schedule at that time. We booked 2 rooms, which we always do, so now its Hyatt's loss for not getting my business in the future. My opinion is that Hyatt should change their policy and that in order to do that people should not book rooms with them. You could end up in this situation yourlseves and be out $50.

Hyatt has a couple of cancellation policies.

The one for very good/special rates like the Internet rate I got of $83 which clearly stated the strict cancellation policy on my confirmation email:

Full Prepay at Booking : $50 Cancel Fee If 72hrs Outside of Arrival Date : One Night Rm/tax Cancel Fee If Within 72hrs of Arrival Date.

Then they have regular reservations like their new "holiday" rate and the AAA rate. That policy is not strict at all and it states this:

Cancel By 4pm Hotel Time, 1 Day Prior To Arrival

So if you get a special rate, there's a strict cancellation policy and if you get a regular rate or AAA, you get the regular cancellation policy that most hotels have.

I knew it when I booked it and I took the risk. It was worth it to me to have that great rate.
