The local news channels have announced that the Hyatt Orlando will be closing its doors today. It seems they told all 350 employees yesterday that today would be there last day of work and then told all guests that they need to be out by noon today. Of course the local news stations got word of it this morning.

Since it seems they gave little notice, I figured I would post it here in case anyone has a reservation at this hotel since they have not made any announcement of it reopening.

Enquiring minds need to know!

OMG!

The only Hyatt Orlando I know is in Kissimmee. I am sorry to see it go since it is a Llovely resort.

kylara: Thanks for the info about the Hyatt Orlando.

My brother got that hotel thru priceline and was supposed to be there on Monday. I notified him of the situation. He called priceline and they had already booked him next door at the Radisson. So if anyone else won this on priceline, you will be taken care of.

This is really interesting news! I'm supposed to present a paper at an October conference there. I'll have to check with the conference organizers to see what's happening.

Was one of our favorites to Priceline for our truly budget trips.

dgaston,

The conference should be taken care of. I am registered for two conferences that were to be at the Hyatt Orlando in October and one has already been rescheduled to the Hyatt at the Airport. The other one is still working with the Hyatt Corp for relocation but have been told there would not be a problem.

Hopefully you will get (if you haven't already) an update from the conference sponsors.

The closure of the Hyatt Orlando, while unfortunate for hotel employees, was on balance probably good for the Hyatt corporation. Seasoned national travellers have always been puzzled about this property since it is way below usual Hyatt standards and does look and feel more like a "motel".

I feel that this property was Hyatt's weakest link by far and served to damage the reputation of a company that's moving its standards ever-so-closer to the Ritz Carlton chain....three recent Hyatt openings across the country are nothing short of spectacular!!! (Huntington Beach Resort, CA; Coconut Point Resort, Naples area, FL; Chesapeake Bay Resort, MD shore)

I'm hopeful that a low to mid-priced chain (Holiday Inn, Ramada) will swoop in, re-brand, and employees will get to keep their jobs!

Actually, many of the employees have new jobs thanks to the Job fair the Hyatt corp held for them. The news reported that it had been very successful for the employees.

The Hyatt name has already been taken off the pink sign at the entrance to Parkway Blvd. Only the work hotel remains.

So far there hasn't been any news about whether it will be sold or not.

As for it being below Hyatt quality....I agree. I think that it remained open as long as it did because of the convention space. The hotel was able to host conventions at a very reasonable cost so it was used by a lot of non profit companies and associations.

Gee..we just found that hotel on a stay at the begining of the year. We were very pleased with it.
