I read on another thread that you leave your bags outside your room before you go to bed and the Hyatt transports them to the DCL bus. While convenient, I can't imagine leaving my bags unattended in a hotel hallway. Can you bring your bags down to the check in area in the lobby yourself in the morning?

Thanks,
Noel

Yes, you can. We did just that in March, as we missed the 8.30 pick up outside our room at the Hyatt. We left the luggage by receiption, along with loads of other suitcases for the Magic, and they miraculously appeared at our stateroom onboard early in the afternoon. Make sure you have the yellow Disney Magic tags on all your suitcases, and your stateroom number visible. If you dont have enough tags, then ask a Disney Cruiseline rep in the airport atriumNat:Pinkbounc

We didn't put them out the night before...we had to put them out by 8:30 in the morning. In fact, this last time we got a knock on the door at 7:30 because they weren't out there (oops) and the porter took them directly from us. We have done this three different times with Disney and never had a problem.

I have seen two different answers on this. Do you have to be taking the transfers to have them take your bags?

We are staying at the Hyatt the night before, but we are renting a car and driving ourselves (less expensive for 4 people this way).

Thanks,
DJ

From everything I have read or heard, yes. Keep in mind that there is a place just across from the terminal building to unload your luggage so you don't have to lug them into the DCL terminal.
What a lot of people do is drop off the luggage and the rest of the traveling party, then one person return the rental car. It is much easier this way.

Thank you for posting this question. I'm kind of leary about leaving our luggages outside our room. I would hate to find out that someone stole them. Around what time do the porter pick up the luggages? Can't they just knock on the door and take the bags directly from us? So, it's okay to leave the bags at the front desk and the porter will take the bags from there, is that correct? Who do we notifiy to let them know that our bags are at the front desk? Thank you in advance.

They are usually running around between 7-8:30 am and picking them up. Believe me, everytime we have done this, there are lots of luggage sitting out! Like I said above, we did not get ours out promptly this last time :o and they did knock on the door to get them. Not sure if they always do this, but they did this time. I would not worry about putting your luggage out there as it will sit out and various other times while cruising...for instance when you get to port before it is loaded onto the ship, it sits out at the airport, etc.

We stayed at the Hyatt on July 23 prior to our July 24 cruise. Same bellman who took our bags up to our room told us he would be part of the team who would fetch them in the a.m. Put our luggage out at 8 a.m. and went to breakfast. Upon returning we saw 3 of the Hyatt bell staff collecting the bags. I had left a "surprise" tip buried between 2 bags - all 3 of the bell staff thanked me as we walked to our room!!!! Please remember to tip - it means a lot to them!

Thanks for the replies. I think we'll transport it downstairs ourselves. Unfortunately, I've been scarred by past experiences of stolen and damaged bags and now feel I need a receipt in exchange for my stuff. Not that the receipt helped in getting my bags back before, but I did need it to file the claims.

We stayed at the Hyatt the night before our January 2004 cruise. We did not use Disney transfers. We rented a limo instead. Before we left, I called the Hyatt directly and was assured that we could have our bags transfered even though we had not purchased Disney's transfers. I decided to call beforehand because some posts had stated that the Hyatt would not transfer bags without Disney transfers. When we arrived at the hotel, the porter took our bags at the front desk (we had already tagged them), and they arrived the next afternoon at the ship, just as the Hyatt promised. We are cruising again this January and we're staying at the Hyatt again and using our our transportation. I recently read some posts that again stated that you have to buy Disney transfers in order for the Hyatt to transfer your bags. Therefore, I called the Hyatt directly and was again assured that they would transfer our bags even though we did not have Disney transfers. There really is no secret here. When you check in, the front desk staff gives you a sheet explaining the process. Therefore, even though the Hyatt has become very expensive, we are staying there because it is extremely convenient, e.g. no late night shuttle buses, no hauling bags to our limo, etc.

Good luck and have a great trip!!!!

Thanks for checking on this. It seems to make sense for Disney to do this as well. It would reduce (a little) the congestion of people at port dropping off their bags. So I didn't understand why they wouldn't do this for all DCL passengers.

Thanks,
DJ

Obviously, everyone has their own comfort levels and should do what causes the least amount of worry about their luggage.

In all of the posts in the Cruise Line forum, I've never read of anyone having any sort of problem with the Hyatt baggage collection process and I've got to believe we'd quickly hear of any issues if they had occurred!

Add my vote to putting them in the hallway in morning. :D

We've put ours out in the hall 3 different trips now and never had a problem. I would bet a big portion of the hotel are DCL guests as there are a lot of bags outside the rooms.

Sorry, but you must purchase DCL transfers in order to have DCL take your bags to the ship from the Hyatt. The personnel at the Hyatt may tell you that it is okay, but they are not the ones transferring the bags to the ship. All they do is bring the bags downstairs and give them to DCL CMs.
While it is true that you could put the DCL tags on your bags and the Hyatt personnel will then give the bags to DCL. DCL may or may not double check to see that you did indeed pay for that service. In that event, probably one of three things might happen. Your bags may not arrive at the ship or your bags might arrive and your account will be charged for baggage transfer or they might slip by and make it to the ship with no one noticing. I think it is kind of risky to take that chance.
You can buy luggage only transfers for $25 for the first 6 bags and $4 a bag after that.

Oh, I didn't even know there were baggage only transfer. I think we will just take our own. Thanks everyone!

Bumping for recent travelers.....has anyone stayed at the Hyatt lately and did not buy the transfers but had Hyatt take your luggage?

We just returned from the 9/16 Wonder. We stayed at the Hyatt this time as well as the night before our 2/26/04 cruise. "The letter" from the front desk has changed. In February there was no mention of having to buy transfers. Now, it is clearly stated.

If you have purchased transfers and are uncomfortable leaving your luggage outside your door, you can hand it off to the two CM's who will be waiting for you in the lobby anytime after 9AM.

We had a BIG opps on our May 2004 cruise. We were staying at the Hyatt the night before and were using a limo service as our transportation. Anyways, there was 7 of us going in the limo so, that equaled 7 large suit cases, carseat, & a stroller. Of course, these suitcases could not fit in the limo trunk and the front seat. For some reason this driver did not want the suitcases in the passenger area. Probably has to do with safety, I'm sure. Anyways, as we are trying to figure out what to do we saw the DCL truck being loaded up with the lugguge. So, we went and pleaded with the guy to take most of our lugguge. Amazingly, he agreed too but I honestly don't think they are suppose to. But in all honesty what are they going to do, deny us. They could but then, it wouldn't be a win-win situation. Anyways, this is the 2nd time we've had a lugguge problem with this limo company. Some of the drivers will do anything to get the lugguge fit while others don't. So, we probably won't use them. I was told by the limo service rep that it shouldn't be a problem to fit 7 pieces of lugguge and stroller. No problem whatever! Maybe she meant really tiny suitcases for 3 or 4 days cruises. Oh, on our way home we had 2 extra bags full of stuff we bought on the cruise and discovered the limo driving had no problem fitting all the lugguge. With my dh's help (the master of packing trunks), they were able to get all of it to fit with only one piece in the passenger area. So, we really believe the last limo driver had no clue how to pack a trunk..... ;)

We've never had a problem leaving our bags outside the door at 8:30 a.m. They are very efficient there. Just be sure to tell them when you check in that you are sailing with DCL and they will note it on your reservation.
