The time we stayed at the Hyatt the night before, I was hesitant to leave the luggage unattended in the halls. That's just beyond my comfort level, especially when it's never just clothes in the bags. I left them partially in the room, leaning up against the open door, with the TV on. That way they could be seen from the hall, but no one knows whether or not there was someone sitting in the room with an eye on them.
To me, not only is there the theft issue....in general, this seems to be a security issue. Anyone could walk up and stick something in an unattended suitcase sitting in a deserted hallway. No one has to pass through security to check into the Hyatt.
