Can't modify to Aulani or VGC?

Sorry if this is a newb question, but today while trying to modify a reservation I noticed that I can't select Aulani or VGC. Those check boxes are grayed out.
I don't want to go there anyway (not for this trip) but was surprised, and feel like I hadn't noticed that before on the modify screen.
If I attempt to make a new reservation for those same dates and resorts I can.
Why is this so?

It’s to block people from accidentally modifying a reservation to the west coast/Hawaii.

Yes as @davidhr mentioned it is intentional.

AUL can only modify room and dates.
VDH & VGC can only modify between those two resorts, rooms and dates.
WDW, HHI & VB can modify between these resorts, rooms and dates.

DVC does this intentionally so that people don’t accidentally modify their reservation to a resort that is in a completely different time zone. The likelihood of someone that had booked VGF but then wants to modify it to VGC is very slim as it is a 5 hour flight between the two. If someone did want to do that they would need to cancel the VGF and then book VGC. They are still free to modify from VGF to HHI even though that is a 5 hour drive and also unlikely though a little more chance than flying coast to coast.

Remember when going to book they have only 2 categories, WDW resorts and other so people could just check the box by accident without realizing the location.

If you want to switch to a resort across the continent/ocean, you can either cancel and rebook online or call member services and they can process the modification.

Interesting, I never noticed this and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve modified!

yeah I think something else is going on.... tried to modify my AKV to VGC and like above, it was not allowed..... so I cancelled completely and tried to rebook and am getting this message....



this is really frustrating as when I booked the AKV 4 months ago, the online website was down and we had to wait and then call services, I would have rather slept in then get up for the bookings....

Perhaps it is the time difference, as now the message has changed to it will be available at 8am, but not sure why they had that in the beginning. Oh wait, sigh... and now the rooms are gone even though the 'booking' was not open. Do they update in a bulk or is this the usual bad luck for me..... always so stressful until the booking is completed....

Modifying it vs booking new are two completely different things.

They might have been pulling inventory from VGC to do an actual refurb that was rumored.

IDK, I suck at this as I rarely book outside home. just strange as first booking was closed.... and then not open until 8am (EST)... and then somehow the room for today was gone before 8am

yes it is definitely frustrating. I have suspected with others that these commercial renters are using bots to grab some of these rooms. Last summer I had the same thing happen when trying to book Aulani. Room there at 7:59 am and gone at 8 am
