Husbands request...how???

Okay... I have NO idea where is the right forum to ask this.

I am trying to find a phone number/person to contact in regards to a special request of my husband. My husband is a pastry chef and he would love to "shadow" a WDW pastry chef who designs and makes the specialty/wedding cakes at WDW. Does anyone have any contact info for who I may call to even try and make this happen? We leave in less than 2 weeks so I don't have much time to try and make this happen.

Okay...so I called the info number and they suggested I try the cake hotline number but I sat on hold there for 20 minutes and I never got an answer :-( Any other suggestions?

Why not try calling the number for Disney Weddings, since he is interested in
the Wedding cakes. Maybe they can connect you with someone in the Baking area. I'm only trying to guess...... Good Luck.

I know the Disney Institute offers classes on just about any subject with expert staff and I'd suggest that route. I really doubt that the chefs can freelance and take on requests to shadow them--there wouldn't be enough time in the day plus the health regulations and sanitation requirements involved in the kitchens of such as WDW would prohibit guests.

Thanks for the input... my DH does not need classes he is a pastry chef and worked in a high-end restaurant. He is serv-safe certified and knows all about health regulations. I was simply trying to find out if anyone had any contact information for anyone to actually talk to at Disney about it. We are aware it is a long-shot but this is the one thing he has expressed interest in so I really wanted to give it my best try.

I'm no Disney expert but maybe try to contact the concierge desk at the GF. I would assume they are used to trying to "make dreams come true" and are probably pretty well connected in the WDW network. They might have a suggestion for you. And next trip, maybe book V & A's and see if there's any way he could help and not just watch the preparation. But it does sound like you might be trying to do the impossible. Keep us updated please, I'd love to see if you can work it out.

Yes, it is still around. Their people conduct the all day Magic Behind the Scenes tour (just took it in March).

Check out the cake thread here on this board. There's someone over there (I can't recall the user name right now.....sorry!) - I know there's a Tink cake in her signature for sure! I beleive her husband/boyfriend/someone important in her life is a pastry chef at one of the resorts (maybe YC???). Maybe she would be able to help you out or know who to contact to make the connection with???? I also don't know if it would be to your benefit to order a "custom" cake and assit with making that cake??? I guess I would keep calling the cake hotline to see what they could do for you. I know I've spoken with Linda at the GF when ordering cakes. I may also have an email for someone at EPCOT from when we ordered a cake there. I'll look and see if I still have it (I found it and will PM to you - PLEASE know that I don't have permission to post this here from this person hence the PM). I would also send the PM to the person from the cake thread - at least you're working two different avenues at the same time and hopefully one will work out for you!!

Disney magic does happen!! I was able to get a time for my hubby to shadow the exec pastry chef at the GF for 2 hours while we are on our vacation!!!

The Disney Institute used to offer classes like that, but now it is basically training seminars.
