Husband just called our guide - does this sound right?

We just signed this deal at Doorway to Dreams. If you do go, call and make an appt and they will let your kids play in supervised play area(about 2 hrs). It was great, and the kids had fun just like at Disney. We bought 200 pts and got 270 pts, plus the $500.00 disney card, and $8point discount at the AKV. It was a nice incentive. We visited there in Nov, and decided to hold off until after our disney trip to see how we felt, and this was a much better deal. I believe they offering this deal only there because they are promoting the store, it's a pretty big deal, and they have to pay for it all. If you can go, it is pretty cool, the actual AKV 2br suite is set up. It is enough to sell you on it. We have already booked our first trip a week later.

So you got 270 DEVELOPER points? I just got off the phone with them and was told NO developer points. I was told only developer points if you had a referral - but then no APs/GC. If you got the APs/GC then no developer points.

What was the incentive for 160 points original purchase - or did they tell you? Do I need to bump up to 200 points?

UGH - why does it appear that the incentive keeps changing?

Yes, but you did have to be present, we only live 3 hours from Chicago, so it was worth drive and it was through the end of the month. The 270 was with 200 only. I believe with 160, it was 160 developer points. Maybe try calling the store. My guide was Diane. Hope that helps, good luck!!:dance3:

We talked to Diane tonight (my husband is planning on going up there this week) and she said no developer points. We'll call and verify in the morning.

Thanks!

We talked to our usual guide tonight to put in an "order" for 230 points for AKV, UY of June. She wasn't really working today but picked up our message and called us back. She plans on getting back with us tomorrow. She did say we would get the 270 developer points.

for those that have problems with the DTD incentives...

are you really saying that Disney (or any company for that matter) should not offer different prices to different people, depending on the situation?

- Then why aren't you up in arms about all the perks Disney offers Fla residents?
- Why aren't you up in arms about Disney's seasonal pricing? Is it fair that people with kids are discriminated against because we can only go to Disney at certain times of the year...why should we have to pay higher prices just because we have kids!
- Why aren't you up in arms that people who live in Maine can get Lobster for less than people in Arkansas?

This is common practice for Disney and most every other company trying to make a profit. Fairness is not (and should not be) a consideration...Disney is running a business, not a kindergarten.

What's bugging me is that we asked our Guide about the DTD incentive and was told it was over. (He agreed if we could get to Chicago we should run - not walk to get a better deal - but claimed he talked to his supervisor and it was over). Now, we find out the incentive is still going on. We've still not received our paperwork (gave a deposit over a week ago) to sign - so I feel like I have the right to change and go to Chicago if the better incentive is there. If I'm forking over this much cash - I want the best deal.

I see it the same as buying a car - I'm going after the best deal.

I can't do anything about something regional (unless I can either 1 get there to get a better deal and it's worth my time and travel or it would never apply to me as I don't live in that region). BUT - if I can take advantage of our free flight availability and make the incentive work the best for me and my family - by George - I'm going after it.

So basically if I'm new and haven't bought into the DVC and I live in NY I'm SOL? Or should I call my guide and tell her I heard about the promo and would like to get in on it. I do have a referral so I could get the 100 developer points. I could really use 2 AP!!!!!! I guess it's worth a try!!

I don't think you have to be a new member you just have to sign up for additioinal points, etc. (not sure what the threshold is for new points to get the promo). But our guide is great and she said the ONLY way to get the DTD deal was to physically be there. We've contemplating driving up there (we are in St. louis) but my husband is better off just working a few OT hours this weekend and should have what the deal offered in a matter of half a day - so for us not worth it. But I was tempted because it would give me an excuse to go to IKEA (we don't have one in the area).:rotfl2:

Yes... with Disney, that's what I'm saying. It shouldn't matter what sales office you buy from... you should get the same offer. That puts Disney up the ladder on ethical business behavior. Businesses can and will do anything they like. Being fair, across the board, is a image to strive for and I think Disney could sell DVC this way without a problem. Do you really think people buy just because they get 2 AP... no! But are people mad that they don't get 2 AP and spend the same amount of money... yes!!!

- Then why aren't you up in arms about all the perks Disney offers Fla residents?.
I think they should offer that to all DVC members as a perk. They say "welcome home" right????

- Why aren't you up in arms about Disney's seasonal pricing? Is it fair that people with kids are discriminated against because we can only go to Disney at certain times of the year...why should we have to pay higher prices just because we have kids! .
Other than Fla, they don't say if you are from Chicago your tkt prices are lower than if you are from Ga do they??? Seasonal prices are fair... they are given to every person the same... regardless of where they live.

- Why aren't you up in arms that people who live in Maine can get Lobster for less than people in Arkansas?.
I think if they offered Lobster (not postage... pure lobster price) cheaper to people in Arkansas than they did in Chicago... people from Chicago that bought lobster would be mad.

This is common practice for Disney and most every other company trying to make a profit. Fairness is not (and should not be) a consideration...Disney is running a business, not a kindergarten.
Just because it is common doesn't mean it is right. IMHO fairness is an incredible consideration... and the responsiblity of individuals and companies alike! Then to add to that, I think many people like me believe certain businesses have higher standards than just any old business trying to make money. I think a good reputation is something money can't buy, but definitely worth striving for and maintaining. I believe if they give 2 AP's to people of Chicago... and make the rest of the DVC world mad... Disney is making a bad business decision.

I am one of those people that avoided timeshare purchases like crazy. Then add to that factor that this "timeshare" has a limited life... in my old thinking... I would be beyond crazy to consider it. Yet I bought... but I also gave Disney bonus credit for being straight in their sales pitch, no pressure, no hidden incentives... no games. I think they might lose more sales and make membership mad by this game. I think it is a terrible mistake. If you are considered above standards... don't lower yourself.

Of course... IMHO.:flower3:

To the OP, sorry you were apparently given wrong information. Your guide may have been telling you exactly what they knew to be true at the time.
I have no problem with little "add ons" being offered at different locations. These are offered to help pick up sales in certain areas. To me the extra developer points, tapestry, point discount ,ect. have made no difference in when we have purchased an add on. I don't see a reason to get all bent out of shape about it. Actually, I am sure you would have saved more than $500 or the cost of 2 APs if you had bought resale.:)

I think it is more like the Free Dining plan. If you want it, you are free to purchase a full price room and park tickets. If you want the APs, you are free to visit the Chicago sales office.

do you get the free AP for just a 110 pt add on if you do it at DTD in Chicago?

Not sure - it didn't sound like, when we chatted with them, it was just if you bought 200+ so they may do it for 110. Give them a ring but make sure you talk to someone "up there" who knows what they are talking about.
