Has Florida had any as of yet that caused flight delays or cancelations arriving in Orlando Airport? I know the weather in Florida can change by the second, but wondering what the chances are that one will impact our flight to Disney at the end of this month.

So far I think it has been sort of a quiet season. Last I heard the current storm was somewhat breaking up, and scheduled to move up the east coast, but far out at sea. But of course "past performance is not indicative of future results"! Just keep an eye on those storm forecasts. They can usually spot those things brewing a ways in advance. Tis the season. Good luck!

In prime hurricane season there is always a chance. Sorry but that is about all that can be said. Monitor the weather reports and use http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

If one seems to be coming close, check the airlines. They will offer the opportunity to change or cancel flights if there will be an impact.

In August, I'd count on daily thunderstorms impacting your flight arrivals way more than a hurricane. I returned from Seattle last Tuesday and spent almost an hour circling the airport because of storms.

Fun fact: It's been over 3200 days since Florida was hit by a hurricane.

This is a crazy graphic...

yes a hurricane will cause a flight to be delayed or more likely to be canceled

Yes, I'm aware of that -- my question was whether there have been any recent ones. Trying to mentally prepare for a worse case scenario :sad1:

To the OP, there's been nothing RECENTLY, but we're not into the peak of the season yet. Typically, the last half of the season is the most active. We've been lucky, however, since Wilma in 2005.

So far this season there have only been two hurricanes/tropical storms and neither one has affected FL at all. Of course that doesn't tell you anything about what will happen at the end of this month. You'll just have to keep a eye on the forecasts as you get closer to your trip.

When is the last half of the season? Let me guess...end of August/September?? :scared:

Thank you all for input. :) We've flown out in our winters before -- and well they were just horrible flights in every regard. So we thought we would try our luck at end of August/first week September. *fingers crossed*

whether there has been one recently means nothing.

This could still be the year when there is another one.

Bookmark the NOAA site and keep an eye on it when it's closer to your trip dates. That's all you can do.

September and October seem to be the most active, although you can get them as late as November. I'm in Houston and we were last hit 9/13/08. Hurricane Ike.

This is my fourth First Week of September trip to WDW. Starting about four weeks out, I start checking the NHS website multiple times a day (compulsive, I know). It can take a long time for the storms to start off the coast of Africa and make their way over here. Happy storm watching!
