Florida just declared a state of emergency ... wow ... way too soon IMO
The way things are set up, they have to in order to qualify for certain federal funds ASAP.

This is normal. Just a way to move government money faster if it hits hard.
God love the government, so many procedures and no actual brain or heart
Yes. I was just replying to the person who thought it was "too early" to declare a state of emergency.
I mean, the flood waters have mostly gone down in Texas and congress has barely scratched the surface of a reaction.
As for the 9/9 cruise I'm on, Irma is headed south and her right turn looks to be straight up Florida's coast.... but it will be over Cuba when we sail, so rougher seas day one and I expect the captain can find smooth(er) seas after that.
Given there will be three storms out there by then, where we port during the cruise is anyone's guess.

Being from Florida, I know that storms are impossible to predict.
We are scheduled to leave out of PC on Friday September 8th on the Dream for our first Disney cruise.
We were well aware of the chances we were taking booking a cruise in September in the height of hurricane season. So no complaints here but just wondering if anybody had a general idea what DCL may do if the reliable model is actually accurate which shows a strong hurricane on Friday, September 8th right outside the Bahamas which is where the cruise is going for Nassau and CC.
We are fine with just riding around for three days on the boat if the above scenario plays out but is that something DCL would do in a situation like that or just cancel cruise altogether?

.... 9/9. Several people have mentioned it turning into a western caribbean but going south at sail away seems less likely than anything......
..... Going straight east out into the Atlantic on Saturday may make the most sense .....
Agree regarding Fantasy Saturday 9/9 departure.
Not weather a cruise will be cancelled but rather will the ships be able to get back to port is the question.
Fantasy is at CC Friday, IRMA will be around the Dominican Republic. When Fantasy rounds the horn of FL Irma won't be anywhere near enough to make the jello at cabanas shimmy.
Fantasy should be affected by Irma. Jose may be interesting depending on its path for the 9/9 Fantasy coming back for the 9/16 sailing.
The 9/8 sailing of Dream getting back into port Canaveral 9/11? That's the sketchy one.
Btw, the next storm in the Atlantic is roughly 5 days behind Irma. If it takes the same path and that path was worst case and hit Canaveral, it would hit Friday night/ Saturday morning
Back to back storms would be terrible. We live about 20 minutes south of PC on the barrier island. I started looking at this thread because I met a nice CM at the World of Disney store in DTD this weekend who is on the 9/11 sailing. My gut feeling is that the ship won't port here on 9/11 unless mother nature miraculously spares Brevard County. She was wondering what happens in that case...does Disney refund, partially refund, rebook...I'm honestly still not sure even after reading this thread. She was wondering what happens in that case...does Disney refund, partially refund, rebook...I'm honestly still not sure even after reading this thread.

I don't care where except Canada, if we go to Canada I'll pitch a fit.
Doubt Canada though, two Atlantic storms look like coast huggers so you don't want to get stuck north of the storm.
