I believe the trip insurance offered through MS would only reimburse you the MF associated with the lost points.

Sent from my iPad using DISBoards App, please excuse any typos or autocorrects!

In the past, MS has typically been very generous regarding weather related cancellations (hurricanes, winter storms, floods) and has usually returned the points to their Use Year without Holding Account penalty. While that would not help with a cancellation late in the Use Year, at least there would be an option for the member to still possibly rent to someone else.

As noted, the insurance is designed to basically repay the maintenance cost of points lost due to health related issues and for assorted other reasons.

Would that include allowing borrowed points to be returned the the original UY???

I don't believe so. The insurance only covers a flat $$ value for the points used for the reservation. This is one of those situations where Use Year can certainly make a difference when borrowing points for a late-in-your-Use-Year reservation during hurricane season.

Good luck! :)

There is a Disney Vacation Club Hurricane Policy Statement located when you sign in to dvcmember.com. It doesn't say much about borrowed points, or anything though...

Just sign on and go to Vacation Planning | Modify of Cancel a Reservation

It states:

From June 1st to November 30th, in the event a hurricane warning is issued by the National Hurricane Center for the Orlando area, Vero Beach area, Hilton Head Island, Oahu or for the Member's place of residence within 7 days before the scheduled arrival date, the Member may call Member Services prior to check-in to cancel or reschedule, based upon availability, their Disney Vacation Club Resort reservation without any cancellation or modification penalty.

Note: This policy pertains to hurricane warnings only. Other weather advisory levels are handled on a case by case basis and Members should contact Member Services.

QUESTIONS

When does this temporary policy become effective?
What can I do if a hurricane warning is issued?
Will I be responsible for any cancellation or modification penalties or other amounts?
What if I prefer to reschedule my vacation to a different date because of a hurricane warning? Will I be able to get my same accommodations?

Thanks to both of you .... I realized what I was doing when I booked this but I had little choice because I just got the contract. I will plan differently next time and book my trip in Oct (I have oct UY? Next time. I had 140 points that were due to expire on 10-1 and I borrowed 96 from the next UY .... We are going unless a Hurricane does show up ... I will cross my fingers.. I could buy the insurance but my trip spans 3 UY... Guess I will risk it .. : O /
