Hurricane Watchers--Post Here!

we leave on the 31st...next friday..will we be affected by this? have they said if it hits florida when that will be? :confused3:scared:

We fly out of upstate NY on Saturday afternoon and are supposed to arrive into Orlando in the early evening. I am kind of concerned but I am trying hard not to be a debby downer. This is our very first trip to WDW and we are SUPER excited! SO I am going to STOP watching the weather forecasts. :)

So, we arrive on Saturday morning, 08/25. I've been watching 2 models. I'll post the links below. Hopefully, the European model is correct, lol.

This is the link for the European model:

http://www.ecmwf.int/products/forec...a!pop!od!oper!public_plots!2005101800!!!step/

If this link does not start up right away for you, right click on the big grey box it and hit "run this plug in." It shows the storm staying south of Florida and going up into the gulf.

The other model I'm watching is:

Click on the hurricane tracker box below the big cone pic for a more detailed tracking.

Both of these are supposed to be VERY accurate in predicting storms according to GMA this morning and a couple of other blogs that I'm following BUT they are only good for 5 days out. There is supposed to be an update at 5 p.m. from the hurricane tracker plane, which is supposedly checking things out right now.

I'm worried about our trip. We've been so lucky the past 3 years with dodging hurricanes. I hope this year, we are just as lucky!!!!!!!

I've been keeping an eye on the storms too. We fly out on Sunday. TD9 is there, but I'm not overly stressed about it, at this point. I think we'll be good to fly in on Sunday, and that's my main concern. Predictions right now are calling for a lot of rain in the Orlando area on Monday, but not beyond that. For whatever a forecast 6 days out is worth.. which is not a whole heck of a lot.

I wish I could stop too!!! You are my hero...this is our first trip too and we feel the same way!! Just have to take it one day at a time!

Isaac, schmisaac, that's what I say. Well, mostly. As long as my flights are ok, (they should be, we get in this Friday at noon, and leave Monday the 3rd at 10am (providing that other thing brewing out there doesn't head towards FL by then)) I'm all good. Even if it rains all day and they close the parks, it's still going to be fun and an experience we'll always remember.

Also, I had planned to upgrade my tickets to non-expiring 10 days well before this possible hurricane business, so I feel like I'm covered whatever happens.

Dont let it scare you off. Our first trip was impacted in a good way by a hurricane. I think it was 2005. One cut across the midsection of the state. We pushed our trip back by a day. When we arrived at Disney the day after it passed through we had the place to ourselves. We have video of Main St nearly empty. On the same trip one was buidling as we left so the whole week was pretty much empty.

I hunted through the closests and found the rain gear. Dollar store ponchos may not cut it! I have been planning this trip for months - no hurricane is going to stop us!

We're flying in Friday! DH keeps checking the weather. OP can you link to the other hurricane thread?

We're supposed to arrive on 9/2, driving down from Ohio. Fingers crossed!

Well, Tropical Depression 9 is now officially Tropical Storm Isaac. I just read the latest discussion on the National Hurricane Center website that was sent out at 5pm. http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/refresh/MIATCDAT4+shtml/212051.shtml?

Looks like it's still on course to go over Cuba and Hispanola (where the heck is Hispanola?!? I need to look at a map...) on Tues but that the most recept forecast at 5pm did NOT have the storm strengthening or intensifying as was previously predicted. Of course, that could change for the next forecast, but looked like good news. It also looked like the storm would really loose some steam by going over that much land on the way to Florida.

Hispanola = The Chuck of land SE of Cuba that is made up of Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

The more you know.

People traveling to WDW this weekend should be fine. It doesn't look like it will be getting to Florida until Monday.

We leave on Friday and like others, as long as I get there OK, I really don't mind it too much. It's kind of exciting, actually! The only way it might affect us is our Exotic Driving Experience which is scheduled for Wednesday morning. Hopefully it'll work out!

This constant hurricane watching is an annual thing for me. We go every year at this time and every year there is something brewing. The worst impact we have had is 2004 when we delayed our trip three days because of Frances. Both the airline and Disney were easy to work with, and we enjoyed the empty parks when we finally got down there.

This year we are going down on Friday and returning on Tuesday evening. It looks like Tuesday could be a bad time to try and fly out, so I'll keep an eye on things and rearrange plans if necessary.

Happy hurricane watching, everyone!!:thumbsup2

Leaving Saturday early a.m. flying out of NY and hoping we don't have any issues with weather. Once i'm there, nothing can ruin my fun:cool1: but i just want to arrive safely as flying is not my favorite! :confused3

We're leaving Saturday morning too. Last year we were the last plane to get out of Richmond ahead of Irene. This year it looks like getting there will not be a problem. Sometimes planes that connect through Orlando serve Puerto Rico, so my only concern is what would happen to our flight if the plane is coming or going to PR and the airport there closes.

I bought trip insurance this year. Guess I better read the fine print!

Same here, same here and a BIG same here! Regarding the BIG same here.......Xanax! :thumbsup2

We leave on Thursday. I am not allowing myself to read too many threads or obsessively watch the storm. Too often the "well remember THIS hurricane or THAT hurricane...it was supposed to do X but it actually did Y...and ruined everyone's Disney dreams FOREVER..." y'all know what I mean. Hurricane Faye was predicted to park over Orlando and not move for the entire time we were to be there. Turns out we had one day of rain. Then ten days of sun.

don't read to much in to hobby meteorologists. My husband and I had the BEST day of our honeymoon when Hurricane Ernesto blew in. The parks were deserted. We were allowed to get on rides and when we'd come to the end the CM would say "You want to go around again?" and off we'd go! We rode Splash mountain 8 times in a row before my husband couldn't stand another round zippidee do dah!!!:lmao: We ran over the BTMRR and did the same thing. Rode round and round until we asked to get off! It was a BLAST!!!

This year we are all bringing our real rain coats (LLBean Trail Model Rain Coats). We will splash through puddles and have fun no matter what. I DO believe that there will be lots of sun too!!!

Don't read the hype. Just plan ahead and have a great time!!!:cool1:
