Hurricane Strike Frequency (pic from Weather.com)

This is currently on Weather.com... I know they have data to back this up, but tell me if this looks wrong to you too.

In particular I recall SC being hit FAR more frequently than every 11-15 years, the same as MA which I cannot even recall the last hurricane landfall we had here.

I think it's just an "average" going by the data they have collected since they started tracking hurricanes around the turn of the century.
