So as I understand it, it's still hurricane season?

For all you Orlandoins (Orlandeans? Orlandoers? Orlandese?) how's it been on the hurricane front so far this year? We usually hear about all the worst ones over here, but it appears to have been quiet on that front so far.

(I know I shouldn't probably tempt fate and use the 'H' word, but I guess I'm just curious!)

I guess nobody wants to go out and play when it's all windy and rainy (!) so I guess the parks spend a few days a year closed due to the danger?

Mexico has been getting hit this year. The states (so far) have not.
The parks will close when a hurricane is approaching. But luckily what happened in 2004 here was way out of the norm.
It takes a lot for the parks to close. Historically the parks rarely close. And when they do, it is for very good reasons.
Hurricane season is June 1 - November 30.

I arrived not long after the biggies in 2004 (I was over for the last couple of weeks in October) and there was a fair amount of destruction around. I remember the big sign at the entrance to USO was damaged and billboards had been ripped from their housings, palm trees blown over...things like that.

We also got chatting to a couple of women in a bar who said a tree fell on their house!

We thankfully don't get to experience that level of storminess here. It's too cold for hurricanes in Scotland! I'm concerned that since there apparently hasn't been any big storms hitting Orlando thus far, that we'll get one when we're over next week! I guess that's just silly and there won't be anything to worry about.

We'll be hitting the ABC Liquor store for many supplies if one does occur, since we'd be trapped in our hotel room :rotfl:

I was once there when a tropical storm blew through (can't remember the name). I was staying near the park and asked the Universal parking people if it'd be alright to leave my car in the nicely sheltered parking garage overnight and they said, "No problem."

In spite of all the dire predictions, Hurricane Season 2007 has pretty much skipped Florida all together...we haven't even had all that much rain this year. Now that the weather is getting (slightly) cooler I wouldn't anticipate any more tropical storm activity here this year. :beach:
