Hurricane Sandy and East Coast - anyone preparing yet?

If it's a matinee, you'll be fine. If it's an evening performance, at this point it will be very iffy, looks like they might start shutting train and subway systems down around 7pm, although there hasn't been an official decision yet.

It is now official.

I feel like I need to do more but my DH is not on board and neither are his brothers(whom we share a home with until our closing is final). I am seriously stressing out!

I cleaned and did all of the laundry though. We got batteries for the flash lights and cash. I pretty much always keep my car full of gas so that's not an issue.

I hope it's not too bad!

Well, the laundry is going and going, and I am cleaning and cleaning. :laundy: I went food shopping but still have to get a few things. Please tell me I am not the only one who bought chips like we were never going to have them again? :rotfl: I am going to need an intervention soon!:rotfl2: I plan on cooking a bunch of stuff today that can be left out in case we lose electric. I need to get some firewood inside and then I think we will be good. I have candles, batteries, flashlights, and I will be charging all the video games/istuff today. Let's hope Sandy goes back out to sea.:)

you and my dh!! :rotfl: I can't even fit all the junk food in my cabinets.

Yesterday he said to me "honey, go get some food we can eat if we can't cook, like... (pause)... coooookies... :goodvibes" Too funny!

Well, I live on the south shore of Long Island and my town is on the water. Streets closest to the water are already flooding and my town called for a mandatory evacuation for those living up to a certain street. I'm only 2 blocks north of the mandatory evacuation line. :scared1:

I would think about maybe packing up and getting out of dodge .. things can change in the blink of an eye.

We had several communities here that did not flood for Katrina , or Rita , and Issac got them bad in September. I had friends that have NEVER flooded , lose their homes .

Good luck guys , this Gulf Coast Diser will be thinking about all of you .

And just for the record.. we just finished the last bag of chips and can of honey roasted peanuts two weeks ago from my shopping binge for hurricane Ike which was at the end of Aug , I guess you can have too many bags of chips ; ) .

oh yea, and yesterday I got a poopie-load of halloween candy, since halloween may still happen and we live in a development that always gets a lot of trick or treaters. I only got stuff that my family likes though, in case we have to eat it all ourselves. :rotfl:

Mmm, I shoulda bought some of them...sounds really delicious! :rotfl2:

We are really worried about the trees on the property. With all of the high winds that we are expecting, we are afraid that we are going to sustain a lot of tree damage...and we are also worried about the damage that the trees can cause. Sigh...

We've heard no word about school for tomorrow. DH and I are both teachers. We have no idea if we have to go in tomorrow - I sure hope not.... even if the district that my we live in does not close (we don't work in the district that we live in) I don't think I am sending the kids to school tomorrow. My oldest DS can stay home with his twin brothers. I will feel better knowing they are home...

I'm in direct line with the cone :( I do NOT like this at all, my house was NOT made for 95mph gusts... its 80+years old!!:faint: thank god my roof is newer...

https://www.facebook.com/NepaHurricaneSandyWatch Here is a page for NEPA peeps on facebook

Good luck and stay safe! Do you have everything yall need so far?

May have been lame for you, but not for us. We were without power for 4 days and my parents had 2 trees on their roof. Nothing lame about Irene here in Central VA where it wasn't supposed to be that bad.

I'm sorry, I know some people did get a lot of damage from the hurricane last year. I shouldn't say it was lame, more that it was way over-hyped for my area and most of us saw little more than power outages.

So far here just wind and moderate rain. It looks like the storm keeps tracking further and further north of us. Best wishes to everyone in that area. Stay safe!

I only buy them for hurricanes .. I made three junk food runs for three days before Issac hit .. I never felt like I had enough LOL.

I'm staying at work here in Atlantic City for the next few days. Our house is 3 blocks from the ocean. As bad as this weather is going to be, I don't fear it. I can't, however, shake that nervous, gut wrenching feeling in the pit of my stomach from not knowing what condition the house will be in when we are allowed back. That is what I fear the most.

My parents are also on the South Shore, though about a mile away from the water. Dad is in a rehab for a broken foot and Mom is coming to us, towards the East End of the Island. She is bringing the wine and all the chips were bought two days ago and are gone! Off to make cookies and more cleaning for my house guest!

I thought it was mandatory evacuation down there by 4 p.m. today? I know they made the tolls free going out and the roads are going to be closed by 10 pm. going in. Good luck and be careful.

Wow. They've closed the DC public schools for tomorrow.

They are closing schools, transit systems and community centers. I sure wish the government would decide what us government workers are going to be doing! :confused3

You must be near where my SIL is. We were worried about her riding out Irene in VA Beach and then she never even lost power :confused3

We are getting NOTHING up here in the Richmond area right now. A little breezy now & then, but no rain yet.

My husband just spoke to one son who lives about 15 minutes from Ocean City , MD..they are getting light rain and light winds now . The other son lives in Delaware, but works in Ocean City, and we haven't been able to get hold of him yet, he's at work.

Here in Western Maryland, it's very quite. 55 degrees..light rain every now and then, no winds to speak of..and I hope it stays that way!
