Hurricane Matthew Closes WDW - Reopens Saturday, October 8th

I am so glad to see everyone in Florida fared better than expected and that the worst seems to be behind you all. I am however seriously bummed that Southwest cancelled my flight yesterday afternoon, about 40 hours before takeoff! Does anyone know if a cancellation is permanent, or could my flight come back online? I really want to go to Disney!!

My son and I have been VERY impressed with all the activities at ASMo.

That's Awesome! If I was there, you better believe I would be right up in the middle of all that. Good job Disney!

Exactly, there had to be someone physically there in charge. I can't believe owners would let guests run the place

Not only could they be destructive - and it looks like from last video water will likely be entering first floor ........... if something happens to any of them, the owner could be held liable. I would have told the guests be out by 6 am or the police are coming. That was early enough they could have gotten help.

I wonder how they're planning on enforcing that little condition?
They likely just are leaving on their website and voicemails that they are closed. I doubt they are going to be reinforcing the guest only policy for the few who happen to venture out to check. If anyone gets confirmation, let us know. We are onsite so it doesn't matter to us except for transportation

I live in Louisiana and if Florida's curfew is the same, it is not in effect during daylight or unposted hours. So those people out and about aren't breaking curfew.
the curfew was specifically for the hurricane. So it was in force day and night.

We are driving down to WDW tomorrow and now I'm a little worried. Lol. We are leaving MD at 1pm and stopping at Florence SC I would guess around 8pm. Now I'm seeing SC might get hit straight on. I know Florence isn't near the coast but I'm wondering if the storm will still be in SC at 8pm tomorrow. Anyone have any clue as to what I may be in for? Thanks!

We are driving down on Sunday and we were planning on stopping in Savannah but still keeping a close watch over the weather there and trying to decide now if we should adjust the time we leave and instead drive down straight through without stopping if staying there is not an option (we have hotel reservations in Savannah so it may be a matter of cancelling them).

I wonder what will be open tonight at Disney Springs if only resort guests are there. I would imagine only a fraction of the stores/restaurants wil be open.

Just passing it on. Maybe enter via bus only.... Maybe you need a MagicBand to enter a store/restaurant etc. Maybe wristbands.
Oh, I understand. I just smiled when I saw that condition. I think the real answer to my question will be "honor system" unless they require that you arrive via resort bus (assuming those are running).

I'm sorry but as I type this it's pouring outside my room and the tree is still being gusted at and bent over. While the food court may be open to those that are stupid and wandering around I do not expect mousekeeping or any other cm to be out in is yet

Must be very localized. I'm at CBR. In the last 4 hours it has rained a total of 10 minutes lightly. Winds are moderate, maybe 15-20mph. No trees bent over, not even close. Rather nice out and lots of people walking about the walkways. Joggers too.

Hey all! We have an 8 night stay that was supposed to start today, but we altered our plans earlier today when we saw the 7am curfew and thought we wouldn't be able to get in (extended our hotel in GA for one more night). I know curfew is now lifted but we are still 5 hours away so are going to wait til first thing tomorrow morning to drive down.

Do you think there is any risk that they don't hold our reservation if we don't show up tonite? Point is, do we need to wait on that crazy 3 hour hold to confirm that we WILL be there tomorrow?

When I called to cancel my Friday night arrival, they told me that if you're a no show on the first night, you need to check in by 11:00 am the next morning at the latest or they could very well cancel your whole reservation.

NOTE: There is still a mandatory curfew in place for Orange County.
This includes roads within the Walt Disney World Resort. Don't drive!

NO... the curfew was cancelled an hour ago. BUT, there is still rain and heavy winds in some areas. We just drove back from Tampa to East Orlando..... the area around WDW was pretty calm but as we traveled east the wind & rain got much worse. IF you must venture out, be careful. There are still fallen branches and falling branches and the wind & rain is supposed to increase. Thank God this wasn't as bad as it could have been!

I would think so, too. Probably mostly Disney owned locations will be open. With only the resort guests though, they can get away with running the stores on skeleton crews, which is all they probably have.

If you did online check in you should be fine. If you don't get a text with your room number by 6pm, I'd call to make sure they hold your room.

I'm on the phone with guest services and they're reporting Disney Springs is not opening at all today. They also said transportation is still haulted until tomorrow.

Was watching CNN prior to leaving for work an hour ago, one of their intrepid reporters was standing at Apopka Vineland Rd & Hotel Plaza Blvd doing a live hit. Across from McDs.

Lot's of car traffic in the background, looked like the curfew wasn't/isn't being enforced.
Curfew was for evening, not during the day. Disney was just requesting their guests remain in their room. Out there has nothing to do with Disney either

No no, I meant our entire discussion. While the eye of a storm can pass over Orlando, and is colloquially considered to be a direct hit, it isn't actually a direct hit as defined by meteorology. I trust your TT statement is valid. I didn't think we were actually fighting. :-)
Opppps I'm sorry, I thought you were lol see that is what is bad when you read and can't hear :chat::daisy:

The Weather Channel has reported 842 deaths in Haiti. My prayers are with those families and communities.
That info, combined with the issues at at B&B in St. Augustine and now the bar there as well, show that this storm was nothing to bat at eye at. Just a horrible situation all around.
I'm so glad that those in Central Florida didn't get it as bad as was predicted.
