Hurricane Matthew Closes WDW - Reopens Saturday, October 8th

Wow, tons of respect lost on the WDW management for selling that for $13.
I agree. I know it must be so chaotic and everyone, including guests and employees, are all trying to prepare and figure out what to do, but whoever thought this was a good idea and put it into effect....that just really makes me sad. I feel so bad for everyone stranded and this seems a so ridiculous and not necessary. Shame on whoever is in charge of this.

I don't mean to sound ignorant but don't know what storm surge means. Can someone give me a quick definition. Why is that serious?
Basically, it is a combination of the wind and pressure pushing the ocean onto shore. So, when they say a surge of 9-11 feet, thats how much water will be forced inland. Imagine being on the first floor of a house and that high of a surge came in, you would be under water. The storm surge applies to areas on the coast.

When we road out a hurricane several years ago, the box meal was free, (although it was one per person and many were grabbing more than their share)along with a drink, a flashlight and first run movies in our room. Then we got a call the next day at noon that Epcot was opened to guests only, to just show our room key. Things sure have changed!
Don't be surprised if resorts begin to move to more minimal staffing to necessary only. Get what you need now, even if a line.

Trader Sam's will be closing tonight at 8 so our skippers can try to get home and be safe.

Here is one of the box lunches. IMPORTANT info in red and honestly I think the price is a ripoff for that. I think $7-8 still puts a huge profit in their pocket. Sad.

Thank you so much. You are a nice person. I felt better after reading this. I actually did make FP for Sunday (already had it for Saturday) we still have 2 days of park tickets..

Promise, will be one of your most memorable trips and will always talk about it.

We're watching the progress, we leave very early in the morning. We'll be down there til the 16th. We're driving from TN. We're not panicking, but we're certainly concerned. While we hope to make our check in @ CBR tomorrow, if we have to stop and stay put elsewhere through the night; do you know if Disney would credit our reservation back? We didn't purchase insurance on our package. I'm wondering if they make exceptions for emergency type situations such as Matthew? If not, stopping would still be worth our safety. But, recouping the added cost for another hotel would be helpful. I of course would call them to inform we got stuck and won't be there til Saturday. Would I just call the general reservations line if so?
You won't be driving anywhere near Orlando tomorrow, maybe not even Saturday. Stay as far north as you can. Preferably home until Saturday at the very earliest.

What is the thought on the loop? This storm still looks like it's going to loop back around? :scared:

CNN just said that they think it will loop around. The graphic they showed looked like they thought it would strengthen to a Cat 4 by the time it makes it back around hitting somewhere near Miami. Let's hope not!

When they cleared the campground when we were there during a hurricane, pets came with the people

When I was at the campgrounds front desk yesterday morning they were telling people they would need to have their animals boarded and that the place on property (happy tails?) said they could accommodate all the current animals at the campground. The manager asked that those who stayed and went this route pay the boarding fees then bring the receipt back to them for reimbursement.

Been there with snow and blizzards in the pre-Florida days. It's like you just can't win, lol. Well, I got my laundry done. I'm playing roulette with the dishwasher and waiting until after dinner in about an hour and hoping for the best. Now we drink wine and watch the loops on Wesh2 .... :)

Do you guys think Disney would give me a full refund for my two week stay if I was meant to arrive on Saturday ? My family and I are coming all the way from France and we're not sure we want to leave our beautiful weather behind us to come to a devastated area and risky area ...

We might not be able to get a refund for the plane tickets unless our flight gets cancelled but getting our Disney money back would be good enough.

$12.99 for THAT? :sad2: That meal cost Disney $4 max.

I watched a Miami newscast about an hour or so ago and he said when it loops around it will be nothing but a low pressure system and nothing to be worried about when it loops back. He expects wind shear to tear it apart once it heads back out away from the coast.

For $13, it should have had enough food for the next 24 hours. There should have been the 2 sandwiches, a bag of nuts, an apple, a banana, a clementine, a bag of carrots, 2 boxes of cereal, pretzels, popcorn, cookies, a power bar, a juice box, and 3 bottles of water. That should have been in a BOX (not a crappy container) for $13. They have the supplies and still would have made money and they could have called it a "Matthew care package"
